Difference Between Organic and Inorganic Compounds

Organic Compounds
Inorganic Compounds
● Usually do not
dissolve in water Both
● ● Usually dissolve in
Have low melting
points water.
● Must contain ● Chemical ● Non inflammable.
● Most of the inorganic
Carbon Compounds compounds are Ionic.
● Inflammable
● Made of ● Most compounds are
colorful
● Found in organisms combinations of ● Do not usually contain
● Contain other elements carbon
Elements
● Exist as covalent
molecules, so they
are non-electrolytes
Organic Compound Inorganic Compound

● Compounds essentially having carbon ● Usually dissolves in water due to presence of

atoms in the structure along other atoms ionic bonds.

● Mainly shows covalent bonding ● Show ionic bonding along with covalent
bonding

● Essentially have C and H hydrogen atoms ● Can have any atom except C and H directly
bonded together

● Most compounds are colorless ● Most compounds are colorful

● Most do not dissolve in water due to their ● Don’t essentially have carbon atoms in their
hydrophobicity structure.

GUIDE QUESTIONS:

1. All of these organic compounds are flammable,

colorless, and contains carbon in their structures.
2. They are commonly used in our daily lives for us
to live well. These help us in cooking, in
producing alcohol, cleaners and disinfectants with
antibacterial properties and fuels.
Although these organic compounds are very
useful and helps us in our daily lives, these may
still be dangerous when handled carelessly.
