EFFECTS OF DOLLARIZATION IN THE
TRANSPORT SECTOR IN ZIMBABWE
• Background
• Aim to assess the impact of dollarization in the
sector
• Define dollarization-use of nations currency
for transactions
• Benefits and setbacks –monetary systems and
economic stability
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
• Foreign currency shortage between 2000-2008
• The ecomomy had stagnated due exchange
rate
• No research was carried on the impact on of
dollarization in the transport sector
• Liquidity affected recapitalisation
• Little literature on the effects of dollarization
on the transport sector
OBJECTIVES
• To establish effects of dollarization
• To establish the effects of liquidity on the
growth of the sector
• To establish the impact of foreign currency
shortage to the industry
• To establish factors that worked against the
success of the sector
RESEARCH QUESTIONS

• Main research is;does dollarization had


significant impact on the economic growth of the
sector
• does dollarization have a positive effect on the
growth of the sector
• What effects does shortage of foreign currency
have on the sector
• To what establish factors that worked against the
success of the sector
HYPOTHESIS

• Dollarization positively impacted on the


transport sector
• Foreign currency shortage impacted the
operations of the transport sector
• Liquidity impacted negatively to the
transport
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
• To govt –bringing to the policy makers critical
issues
• To the researcher- have an insight on why the
sector is lagging behind
• Academic board- adds up literature for further
research
ASSUMPTIONS
• Research subjects - to be cooperative
• Aware of the effects of dollarization
• The sector can improve with proper planning
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
• Focus on transport sector from 2000 to 2020
• Impact s and economic growth of the sector
of companies in Harare
• Information / statistics may not be a true
reflection of findings
LIMITATIONS
• Limitations-low respondents cooperation
• Information/statistics not a true reflection
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• Problem of quantity and quality data
• Respondents not willing to dulverge

• Confidentiality issues, protection of society.

• Empricial literarture-
• existing literature the effects of dollarization
remain controversial due to loss of soverenity
on monetary issues
• Zimbabwe second to Hungary in-terms of
inflation on the world. Dollarization managed
to tam inflation ,stabilizes the though with it is
not a remedy for countries in crisis
Theoretical literature -demand pull,cost push
and structuralism
• Optimum currency areas- the whole region
using single currency
• Bipolar view – sustainable exchange rate in
relation dollarization is faster and cheaper
way to gain credibility

• RESEARCH DESIGN
• Planning of the research-arranging interviews i.e
who ,when , how and where to do the
interview.
• Descriptive research design that determines the
method of data gathering and the source-
interviews (inductive) understand the nature of
problem and the formulate conceptual or
theoritical framework.
RESEARCH METHODS

• Mixed approach that is both quantitative and


qualitative best where one approach cannot
provide all data needed.
• Multiple is based on realism and pragmatism ,uses
both quantitative and qualitative data to research.
Advantages of methods the research methods
• A mixed method approach capitalises on the
advantages of the quantitative and qualitative
methods while offsetting the drawbacks of each

• Population- 30 dwran from interrelated cases
and individuals considered important in the
research.
• The population is from the transport sector
.e.g transport operators association.

• Gathered by the researcher to resolve the
problem at hand
• Primary data sources-interviews &

• Secondary data-annual reports, newletters
and journals will be used

i.e instant feedback,clarification

• Making appointments for interviews
• Administering questionnaires and following up

• Tables and Pie charts to used to describe,
organise and analyse collected data
• Data collected through interview will be
reported in verbal descriptions
