Its Brief history

AS it is known the there is problem that seen in Addis Ababa is the housing
problem. In order to solve the housing problem of the city and to see the city of Addis
Ababa
 the Addis Ababa administration was proposed Addis Ababa Government construction
and housing development office since 1996 E.C. But it started as a building
construction in 1997.
 they started affordable housing construction within ten sub city of Addis Ababa. from
these sub city Nefas silk lafto sub city governmental construction and housing
development office company was one of them.

 Throughout the construction process on every project we will be proactive and offer
quality work all projects are completed safely, within budget and to the best possible
standard.

 MY OVERALL INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
 How I get the company
 I applied to my internship question to Orrex construction plc on February
2,2009 E.C, the office allows to me to work JIGJIGA university student block
project, then I spend wonder full working time for the last four months.
 My work tasks
The company have varies working section, for the better part of
internship program within the company, first I was taken in the site
work then I conduct with office work,

 Pit excavation: -Pit excavation an excavation of soil for isolated footing

including 25cm working space starting from basement floor level to the end
of foundation depth
 Back fill material: -Back fill is the processes of replacing un selected
material with selected material.
 Masonry work: - Masonry is consists of faced stone, crushed aggregate and
mortar.
 Hard-core: - 250mm thick basaltic stone hard core well rolled, consolidated
and blinded crashed stone, as for the rest of excavation Concrete work
 Concrete is material made up of four gradients such as cement, water, fine
and coarse aggregateReinforcement work
 Steel: steel is easily attack by corrosion so we have placed this material in
safe manner
 FOUNDATION: - foundation is part of the structure that supports the weight
of the structure and transmits all loads that comes from the superstructure
to underlying soil.

Isolated footing: - The isolated footing under a column distributes the

classified as combined footings.

expansions contraction by external factors creep, shrinkage

  The Construction procedure is:
  Column yokes (Cratury) are placed immediately before the slab
is casted, and helps to keep the column forms straight and strong.
Column forms are then placed in the yokes after preparing
column reinforcement is placed and this should erect straight &
supported very well
Finally, check before casting.
Beam casting
The construction procedure of beam
 Props positioned as per the required spacing and leveled through.
 Soffit placed, leveled and position checked.
 Side forms placed after placing of re-bar, their position checked before
being fixed.
 Strutting position and fixed.
 Final check before casting 
 we poured the concrete.
 Challenge I faced
   Challenges during my intern program are listed below:-
 Site language which is too unfamiliar to me and their
methodology of work.
 Reputation of work.
 Climate condition.
 Occurrences of errors and missing data on a drawing.

Generally, I introduce many concepts in class but this

inter program create good opportunities to me to see
those concepts practically and also working with

quality and made me confidential for work.

On construction safety
I recommend my intern company and construction contractors work in orrex to:-
• Open new office for emergency with its service only
• Use construction safety like helmet and etc.
• Give priority for safety before during any activities.
•Give organized information to their customers
•Give job opportunity
