Introduction
In crop production, irrigation helps in protecting plants against frost, suppressing
weed growth in grain fields and preventing soil consolidation.

Introduction…
In this project we plan to design automatic irrigation system using solar power,
which drives water pumps to pump water from bore well to a tank using controller
and moisture sensor.
Solar energy is the most abundant source of energy in the world. It is not only an
answer to today’s energy crisis but also an environmental friendly form of energy.

Problem statement
Water scarcity is the main muddle in today’s era. Agriculture sector is budding
rapidly and hence a lot of water is needed for irrigation.
An automatic plant Irrigation system will aid to save a lot of water and will
safeguard vigorous growth of the crop. This will also eliminate the necessity of
workers on the field and also saves a lot of time.

Goals of the project
The main goals of the project to build cost effective and efficient system that will
address need of modernized irrigation system.

Objective of the project
General objective
To design and simulate an automatic plant watering system using soil moisture
sensors controlled by Atmega328p microcontroller.
Specific objectives
Sizing and identify the suitable components needed for supporting automatic
watering system.

Designing and Modeling of the system with simplified block diagram
Project Scope
The scope of this project entails the design and simulation of a microcontroller
based irrigation system, depending on the soil moisture content.
Humidity (moisture sensor) is the input of the system and an electric water pump
is the output of the system. That can be monitored the irrigation system without
any human interference.

Methodology
Different literature will have been revised relating to this project and data’s will
collect about condition and control parameter of irrigation system. Based on these
parameter system model will designed.
Arduino IDE and Proteus 8 professional software's will selected to develop the
software programming. Here a system will be designed with an alternative method
to prevent the failures that happen in irrigation system using microcontroller and

Design
This paper proposes an automatic plant irrigation system that uses Arduino board, which consists
of ATmega328 Microcontroller. It automatically senses the moisture content of the soil and
decides whether irrigation is needed or not. After analyzing the values, it provides adequate
amount of water to the crop.
Which will reduce the human intervention and use solar energy which is one of the non-renewable
sources for irrigation purpose. The overall system controlled by the microcontroller.
