I-INTRODUCTION
 Shallow foundation is in term of footing, spread
footing or map footing. The deep is generally
D/B<=1 but maybe some what more.
 Two important factors that are to be considered
are:
• The foundation must be stable against

shear failure of the supporting soil.


• The foundation must not settle beyond a

tolerable limit to avoid damage to the


structure.

 1 . Zone I is elastic equilibrium zone

 2 . Zone II is radial shear state
