HOW WE COME TO KNOW THE PLACE The team googled and searched the Internet for geriatric houses around Jakarta Panti Werda Santa Anna obtained one of the highest ratings, of 4.5 stars The group decided to aid them by giving donations while doing the site visit Panti Werda Santa Anna was our main choice as the staff has been friendly and welcoming to us from the start The supervisors of Panti Werda Santa Anna are also very open and willing to coordinate and aid us while we were visiting CONDITIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENT Panti Werda Santa Anna has an excellent environment, for structural and cleanliness The building is cleaned daily as to keep everything neat and clean Every room is maintained to remain hygienic and sterile for the elderlies’ health and safety The elderlies are very friendly and open to socializing with each other and with us The caretakers and supervisors are also aiming to give the elderlies the best help as possible LIVING SITUATION IN A GERIATRIC HOUSE Panti Werda Santa Anna has consists of 87 elderlies, 3 supervisors, and 10 caretakers The staff is polite and friendly towards the elderlies, monitoring them often for emergencies The staff often chats and jokes around with the elderlies to provide social exchanges for them Most of the elderlies there often socialize with each other, and are always obedient with the laws and regulations of Panti Werda Santa Anna The elderlies practice in daily prayers together, and socialize together for meal times and free periods before having their evening rest FINANCIAL EARNINGS OF THE GERIATRIC HOUSE Panti Werda Santa Anna has regular donators who are willing to provide financial and material aids for the geriatric house Panti Werda Santa Anna also obtains donations such as money, food, and household supplies from some of the visitors The donators and visitors also often bring generic medical supplies, clothing, furniture, and religious decorations for Panti Werda Santa Anna Panti Werda Santa Anna is deeply grateful to the donators and visitors who keep giving financial aid and living necessities to the geriatric house while socializing with the elderlies INTERVIEW OF THE ELDERLIES We talked and socialized with several of the elderlies during the visit, however, some of them are affected with Alzheimer An elderly who is of younger age was willing to let us converse and interview her Her name is Hana Magdalena, and she has been staying in Panti Werda Santa Anna for 3 years Before, she was a Sister in a convent in Puncak for 19 years When her health started to deteriorate from her blood pressure and heart disease, the convent helped her relocate to Panti Werda Santa Anna INTERVIEW OF THE STAFF We interviewed one of the three supervisors of Panti Werda Santa Anna The supervisor’s name is Maria Natalia who is currently 28 years old Sister Maria has been helping Panti Werda Santa Anna for 2 years, by guiding the daily prayers and supervising the meal times She greatly enjoys her job as she gets to ensure the elderlies’ welfare and to help manage social events for them Before being transferred to Panti Werda Santa Anna, Sister Maria was from a convent in Makassar where she had been staying for 5 years SUGGESTIONS FOR THE GERIATRIC HOUSE Panti Werda Santa Anna needs to hire more staff to aid the elderlies, since not all of the 10 caretakers can aid all of the 67 healthier elderlies and 20 severely ill elderlies Panti Werda Santa Anna can try to provide more chairs and light bulbs to allow the elderlies to socialize more and for better lighting at night Panti Werda Santa Anna is in dire need of a doctor, and we suggest that Panti Werda Santa Anna should ask for medical aid from the donators to monitor the elderlies’ health conditions Panti Werda Santa Anna can try to give more staff assistance for the guests who are visiting as to help show them around and introduce the elderlies GERIATRIC HOUSE AND HEALTH RELATIONS Most of the geriatric houses’ residents are either elderlies with no family or elderlies who are unwell Geriatric house is related to health and welfare factors as their illnesses and safety issues are closely monitored by the attentive staff Geriatric house provides healthcare and living aids for the elderlies for their daily lives to be more comfortable The elderlies are taken care of and are able to socialize in the geriatric house, especially with caretakers available to aid their daily needs Geriatric house ensures the elderlies’ health and welfare by giving medicines and by having a private ambulance GERIATRIC HOUSE’S RELATION TO PANCASILA AND CONSTITUTION Geriatric house is related to the 2nd sila of just and civilized humanity Geriatric house is related to the 5th sila as well, which is, social justice for all Indonesians Both silas represent that the elderlies’ human rights should be respected, and that as members of the Indonesian society, the elderlies should be taken care of no matter what Geriatric house is related to Constitution Article 13 Year 1998 The elderlies’ health and safety welfare should be monitored, and orphaned elderlies should be put in geriatric houses
