WHAT IS WIRELESS
COMMUNICATION

4
•Wireless communication, or
sometimes simply wireless, is
the transfer of
information between two or
more points that are not
connected by an electrical
conductor. The most common
wireless technologies use radio
waves and electromagnetic
signals

5
In the early stages
• Homing pigeons have been
used to carry messages
backwards and forwards,
they're also restricted to a
single destination.
• It would probably take
several years of one on one
training per bird, and you'd
be likely to lose a lot of birds
along the way,

HISTORY AND PROGRESS OF

WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
6
In the 1800s
 The world's first wireless
telephone conversation
occurred in 1880

 A telephone that conducted

audio conversations
wirelessly over
modulated light beams

HISTORY AND PROGRESS OF

WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
7
In the early stages

 In 1894, Guglielmo
Marconi began developing a
wireless telegraph system
using radio waves

Motorola
DynaTAC Nowadays
8000x

 Motorola was the first

company to produce a
handheld mobile phone.

 On April 3, 1973, Martin

Cooper,a Motorola researcher
and executive, made the first
mobile telephone call from
handheld subscriber
equipment.

TYPES OF • Broadcast Radio.
WIRELESS • Microwave Communication.
COMMUNICATION • Wi-Fi Communication.
• Mobile Communication Systems.

How these
types Work?

HARDWARE OF WIRELESS
COMMUNICATION
• Wireless router
• Wireless Antennas
• Wireless Repeaters
• Wire-based connections
1.   Coaxial cables
2. Optic fiber
• Wireless NIC
• Ethernet cable

APPLICATIONS OF WIRELESS
COMMUNICATION
 Mobile Telephones

 Wi-Fi

 Air-to-Ground
Communication

13
•Cells in a Network. What's interesting about mobile
phone networks is their cellular design.

Mobile
Networks • RF signals are transmitted by an individual phone
and received by the base station, where they are
then re-transmitted from the base station to another
mobile phone.

14
15
Wi-Fi
 How Wi-Fi Works. Like mobile phones,
a Wi-Fi network makes use of radio waves
to transmit information across a network.
The computer should include a wireless
adapter that will translate data sent into a
radio signal.

 Once decoded, the data will be sent to the

Internet through a wired Ethernet
connection.
16
Air-to-Ground Communication

 In 1917 AT&T invented the first American air-to-

ground radio transmitter with a range of 2,000 yards.

 Most planes in the US and all Commercial planes carry

a device known as a transponder.

 Radar could be used to track planes in the air and

determine distance, direction, speed and even type of
aircraft.

 The transponder acts as an identification tool for

aircraft allowing ATC towers to immediately recognize
the identity of each plane.

SMART HOME

  A home automation system will control

lighting, climate, entertainment
systems, and appliances.

 It may also include home security such

as access control and alarm systems

22
• The Internet of things (IoT)
is the extension
of Internet connectivity into
physical devices and
everyday objects. Embedded
with electronics, Internet
connectivity, and other
forms of hardware (such
as sensors), these devices
can communicate and
interact with others over the
Internet, and they can be
remotely monitored and
controlled.
