SCOPE OF SOCIOLOGY
Society is the web (network) of social institutions. These
institutions like family, education, religion, political and economic
are interrelated and interdependent one another. Therefore it is
important that sociology should study society as a whole. Being
the study of society the scope of sociology is very wide. Sociology
studies every aspect of life whether that is economic, political,
religious or other aspect to which human beings are concerned as
members of society. That is why we can say that sociology is the
mother of social sciences. The scope of sociology has been
divided into two categories

• Sociologists have the primary and basic aim to build up
knowledge about the society and social interaction. The
sociologists are required to gain the know-how about the
social problem and their solution. This is only possible on
the basis of scientific knowledge.
• Sociology provides understanding of the society and what
is going on in the society, through the specialized fields of
sociology.

• TEACHING
The persons who get great knowledge become
qualified. These qualified individuals are serving in the
teaching profession. The students are trained by them
and different techniques are taught to them how to
conduct survey or research and also the cultural traits
(characteristics) are transmitted to them. These teachers are

also writing books in which different ways are discussed


for the community development and knowledge is
increased and transmitted to the new generation.
SCOPE OF SOCIOLOGY
• RESEARCH
Those qualified teachers or other individuals are also
engaged in the field of research to find out serious
problems, their causative factors and the ways how
to solve problems. The sociologists as researchers
are employed in many governmental and non-
governmental organization and are found very
helpful in finding difficulties in the way of
development and remedies (solutions) for those
problems.

Sociologists as administrators direct and guide the people in different
organizations which work for the development and social welfare such
as:
• Health and social welfare
• Town departments
• Jail department
• Public administration
• Urban and rural community development projects
• Business administration
• Local government and community development
• Finance, planning and development
• Education
