 Early Life And Education

 Initial education from St. Mary’s School, Mumbai

 Premji has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical
Engineering degree from Stanford University, USA
 Earlier Wipro dealt in hydrogenated oil manufacturing but Premji
diversified it to bakery fats, ethnic ingredient based toiletries, hair
care soaps, baby toiletries, lightning products and hydraulic
cylinders.
 Recognizing the importance of the emerging IT field, Premji
made a focused shift from soaps to software.
 The Western Indian Vegetable Products Ltd, later became Wipro
Ltd
 Achievements

 An honorary doctorate by the Manipal Academy of Higher

Education in 2000.
 Lakshya Business Visionary by National Institute of Industrial
Engineering, Mumbai in 2006.
 An honorary doctorate from Wesleyan University in Middletown,
Connecticut in 2009.
 An honorary doctorate by Mysore University in 2015

 Padma Bhushan by Government of India in 2005. Padma Vibhushan in

2011.
 In April 2017, India Today magazine ranked him 9th in India’s 50 most powerful people of 2017
list
 Struggles of Azim Premji

 During an annual meet, a shareholder openly said in front of everyone that Mr.
Azim Premji should resign.
 He said the company’s business is very complex, and a 21-year-old boy can’t
run a company.
 Before Azim Premji was not confident about his skills. But after this incident,
he gained confidence. From then on he left no stone unturned to grow the
company.
 He had no experience of running the company. The 1st few years were very
difficult for him.
 To understand the business more deeply, he used to spent more of his time in
the factory only. Then he started running the company according to his style.
 Current Position

 Wipro through four decades of diversification and growth to finally

emerge as one of the global leaders in the Software Industry.

 It becomes India's first software company in the world to

achieve SEI- CMM level 5 certificate.

 It become India’s leading seller of computers, scanner, and printer.
