FIRST UPSTREAM PROJECTS

HYDROCARBON GAS STRIPPING PLANT

PROJECT , REFINERY AND IPP
INTRODUCTION
 Syntechsys Global (Syntechsys) to diversify its Business into
the Energy and Power Industry.
 FIRST UPSTREAM PROJECTS LIMITED is established as the

project vehicle to achieve this goal.

 WOOD GROUP and PETROTECHNIA Engineering Ltd is to

prepare a conceptual design proposal for a gas plant feeding:

• 250 Mega Watt Power Plants in Edo State Benin/Sapela
• 50,000 Modular Refineries
The gas plant shall produce:
• 10,000 barrels/day of condensates
• 20,000 barrels/day of LPG
• 20,000 barrel/day equivalent of clean LNG methane gas for
IPP projects.
 First Upstream is considering fields operated by NPDC, or Shell.
• A gas gathering network is designed to gather associated or main
stream gas and process the gas for products for an IPP projects.
•The Gas Processing Plant would be installed on an FPSO with
support ship. The FPSO ship shall have a hull/storage and a
topsides and will use modern automation technologies and
Syntechsys’ Eleaktra software.
•A modified modular Floating/production gas plant shall be
introduced to meet the needs of the clients for the products. The
Gas plants and IPP shall be developed. The plant shall also have an
insitu refinery.
•The Plants and Refinery are to be located in Edo States and the
Oil/Gas Fields in Benin/Warri/Bayelsa axes.
BACKGROUND
 First Upstream plans to design and construct a gas plant on an

FPSO in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria. The gas would be

collected via a gathering station and transported to an FPSO.

Further processing of the gas would be done onshore in a CPF.

The heavier ends in the hydrocarbon composition are to be

sent into a modular refinery to produce LNG, LPG, Diesel and

Condensates. In order to meet the target volumes, First

Upstream Engineers have come up with three cases briefly

described below:
TYPICAL LNG FLOW SCHEME AND

Methane 84.55-96.38 Raw natural gas

Ethane 2.00-11.41

n-Butane 0.00-1.30 Hydrocarbon Nitrogen Compression

Isopentane 0.00-0.02

*The joule Thomson expansion through valve is meant to drop the temperature of the
gas stream to as low as -81°C-91°C easily achieved with a heat exchanger.
 The NGL train consist of a de-methanizer, de-ethanizer, de-propanizer and de-
butanizer. The exit bottom stream from the de-methanizer is sent into a de-ethanizer
to produce ethane gas, bottoms from this unit operation is sent into a de-propanizer to
produce propane gas, and so on. The ethane and the propane is blended together to
produce LPG which is sent into an LPG storage unit

GENERAL INFORMATION ON ALL
OPTIONS
 In all options, production from five wells have been
considered. The five wells include HP1, HP2, MP, LP1, and
LP2.
 The five wells are connected by a gathering station into
an FPSO.
 On the FPSO, the HP1 and HP2 well will flow into the HP
separator, the MP will also flow into the MP separator and
also the LP1 and LP2 into the LP separator.
 The oil from the various separators is commingled and
sent into an oil processing facility. Adequate retention
time is given in the design.
 Two pumps P1 and P2 are connected to the stabilization
column to transport the oil to a First Upstream Crude.
 The products from the refinery are sent into NNPC tank
farms in Edo state.
