Blood Flow

Through The
Heart
The Circulatory System
Anatomy of
the Heart
Parts & Functions of the Heart
Heart – Muscular organ the size of a fist
Superior/Inferior Cava – Carries blood from the upper
body to the heart and the Inferior carries blood from the
lower part. ( 2 largest veins in the body. Their job is to
return oxygen-depleted blood to the heart.)
Pulmonary Valve – Valve that lies between the right
ventricle and the pulmonary artery.
Right Atrium – Receives deoxygenated
blood from the body and pumps it to the
right ventricle.

Tricuspid Valve – This valve prevents back

flow of blood into the right atrium.
Functions

Right Ventricle – This chamber pumps

blood up through the pulmonary valve and
through the pulmonary artery to the lungs.
Pulmonary Artery – Carries deoxygenated
blood from the right ventricle to the lungs.

Left Atrium – Chamber which pumps

oxygenated blood to the left ventricle.

Functions Mitral Valve – It lets the left atrium fill with

blood.

Aortic Valve – Lets blood leave the heart

from the left ventricle to the aorta.
Left Ventricle - The left ventricle is the thickest of
the heart's chambers and is responsible for
pumping oxygenated blood to tissues all over
the body.

Septum - it separates the right and left atria of

Functions the heart

Pulmonary Veins - are responsible for carrying

oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the left
atrium of the heart.
