FAQs
• What is Market Driven Support (MDS)?: This is a specialized support contract that provides severity 1 and
security fixes for 11.2.0.4 database after the end of extended support. More details here:
https://www.oracle.com/a/ocom/docs/ds-mds-database-11g-r2.pdf
• What is the difference between paid MDS and the support customers receive from April-June 2021? MDS
includes Sev 1 fixes, security updates, an upgrade planning workshop, and a technical account manager (TAM).
Without a paid MDS contract, you do not get the upgrade planning workshop and TAM.
• If my customer is not approved for free Sev1/security fixes, or does not purchase MDS, will they be able to
continue to run 11.2.0.4 after 31-March 2021? No, they must upgrade or remove their database from the
system. Customers will not be allowed to continue running unpatched databases.
• If my customer is approved for free Sev 1/security fixes, will they be able to continue to run 11.2.0.4 after
30-June 2021? Not unless they subscribe to an ACS MDS contract. Only customers with a paid MDS contract
are eligible to install the updates required to run 11.2.0.4 after 30-June 2021.
• If my customer subscribes to a paid MDS contract, will they be able to continue to run 11.2.0.4 after 31-
Dec 2021? No, customers must upgrade or remove their database from the system by 31-Dec 2021. Customers
will not be allowed to continue running unpatched databases. 11.2.0.4 databases may fail to run after this date.
• What options do customers running ExaCS OCI-C or DBCS OCI-C have for support after 31-Dec 2021?
Migrate to ExaCS OCI or DBCS OCI and they will be eligible for this additional support.
• Will I be able to provision new 11.2.0.4 databases during the extended support windows? Yes, you will be
able to provision new 11.2.0.4 databases until the end of the support life for 11.2.0.4. With free Sev 1/security
fixes, that will be 30-June 2021, and with paid MDS, that will be 31-Dec 2021.
• Will MDS be available in CY2022 for Cloud DB PaaS Systems? No, MDS will end on 31-Dec 2021.
• After the updates end for 11.2.0.4, can I stop infrastructure patching in the cloud so my infrastructure will
remain compatible with an unpatched 11.2.0.4 database? No, all cloud infrastructures must be patched to
maintain compliance.
• How much does an ACS MDS support contract cost? Contact ACS for pricing.
When is the last patch bundle for 11.2.0.4 on Cloud PaaS? It depends on your end of support date. Bundles are
created in January, April, July, and October, so it will be one of those months. One-off Sev 1 fixes will continue to
be available until support ends.
How can customers upgrade their 11.2.0.4 databases in the cloud? The cloud automation will enable creating
new VMs capable of supporting 19c and earlier databases. We will also be providing cloud automation to upgrade
an existing GI/DB to 19c. We expect this functionality to be available for most platforms by the end of CY20.
Customers must be approved for Sev 1 fixes and security updates during the April-June 2021 timeframe. To receive
Sev 1 fixes and security updates during this window the Oracle account team must:
• Request a support extension on behalf of their customer from the approval application
• Complete information regarding:
• How many 11.2.0.4 databases are running in the cloud, and on what platforms
• Indicate whether these databases will be upgraded or shut down at the end of support
• If the databases will be upgraded, identify a timeline for upgrading the databases and indicate the target
release
• Acknowledge the customer is aware of the upcoming end of support dates and understands no 11.2.0.4
databases will be allowed to run in the cloud at the end of support.
The URL to request an extension will be documented in this PPT by the end of September. Please bookmark this
PPT.
