CHALLENGES IN INDIAN
ELECTORAL SYSTEM
 Fake voter identity is one of the pressing problems. The booth officer verifying the person against
the photograph can only do so. The size of the photograph is small, and it is in black and white. This
makes it almost impossible for a human eye to exactly match the id with the person carrying it.
 Muscle power and domination are another major setback in Indian electoral system. Booth
capturing, rigging, scaring the voters and also poling staff, violence before, during and after election
are different forms of muscle power.
 Criminalization of politics is a serious issue in our present politics. Law makers should not be
tainted with criminal charges, so law should keep them away from the elections.
CHALLENGES IN INDIAN
ELECTORAL SYSTEM
 A coalition after elections is also a major defect in our political system. They contest with
different ideologies in elections but after elections only for the power, on the name of the
preventing re-elections join together to form the government is also against the public
opinion.
 Paid News is a latest serious issue in Indian electoral system. According to the Press council
of India “Any news or analysis appears in any media either Print or Electronic for a price in
cash or kind as consideration”.
PROBABLE SOLUTIONS: WITH
THE HELP OF AI
 It is easy for computers, powered with lenses, to capture an image and count the number of
humans in the image. This is a powerful feature for conducting an automated assessment of
crowds in a queue and providing real-time alerts to coordinators to better manage a queue at the
polling booths. This could not only serve to improve the voting experience but avoid unnecessary
disgruntled crowds after long wait times.
 Fingerprint sensor and face detection tool should be implemented in all voting booths to curb
corruption.
 The use of Facial Recognition technology could enable a person to vote from any polling booth in
India. This technology has the potential to take voter turnout upwards of 90per cent giving more
Indians a chance to participate in its democracy.
PROBABLE SOLUTIONS: WITH
THE HELP OF AI
 The voters need motivation or eradication of problems to vote normally. Using AI, the government can find the
problem areas which are hindering the people to participate in voting and identify which constituency has low voter
turn out. Armed with such kind information, the government can put an effort to eradicate the problems and increase
the voter turn out.
 With real-time news circulating every second, it becomes to differentiate between fake and real news. AI can help
find the authenticity of information and the sources of malicious news origin such as WhatsApp and Facebook groups.
 AI can be used to educate the voters about the candidates contesting the elections by providing easy access to right
information.
 Candidates background check
 Family income
 Criminal record
 Assets check
 Past political records
 Education qualification
