Introduction

Today, there is a systematic process


of communicating and working with
other people from different locations
through online or virtual means. It is
called telecollaboration and it is used
not just in business offices but also in
the classroom, laboratory, or at home.
Web-based collaboration tools that
are available today include email,
online chat, audio-video conferencing,
online forums, and social networking
sites. These applications can be
accessed today not just with the use of
regular computers but also through
laptops, tablets, and even mobile
phones.
Web-based Collaboration Tools

1. Channel.me – allows parties to view a


website simultaneously while chatting
online.
2. Entri – for writing and sharing
documents.
3. Wiggio – for group work.
4. My Simple Surface – online whiteboard
to share ideas.
5. Hackpad – note-taking and writing
outlines.
6. Synchtube – watch videos and chat in
real time.
7. Dabbleboard – virtual whiteboard; basic
version is free.
8. Wizehive – share files, manage projects,
track activity.
9. Skype in the classroom – allows online
sharing of resource among students
and teachers.
10. Thinkbinder – makes possible the
creation of online study group
11. Vyew – meet and share content in
real-time or anytime
12. Scribblar – a multi-user whiteboard,
live audio, image collaboration, text
chat, and more.
13. CoSketch – a multi-user online
whiteboard.
14. Twiddla – for brainstorming on a
blank canvas.
15. Neat Chat – a system that allows
online conversations with a group of
friends.
16. Zoho Writer – online word processor
that allows you to create and share
documents online.
Benefits of Online Collaboration

1. People in different locations can work


together on a project.
2. It helps conserve physical or office
space.
3. It makes team projects easier to keep
track of and manage generating and
submitting reports and collecting inputs
online from team members are easier
than the traditional method.
4. Decisions can be made and actions
undertaken quickly, and often on the
spot so projects can move along
faster.
5. Documents are constantly updated,
stored in a single place, and easily
accessed by every team member as
necessary.
6. There is increased productivity.
