Online identity
• How do people express their
identity online?

• Is the internet a safe and

welcoming place for all?

• Do people feel free to be

themselves online?
I don’t understand fake people
online. Be real or don’t bother.

AGREE DISAGREE

themselves online.

AGREE DISAGREE

Sharing the highlights

Is the internet the

only way that
people present this
best version of
themselves?

Is there a variety of people or are they very similar?
Do you see people like you online?

Does it matter?
The internet is not for all…yet
• This is why some people act a little
differently online.
• This is why some people only share
certain things with their closest friends
online.
• This is why some people say that being
‘real’ makes you vulnerable.
• This is why some people do not feel
part of it.
What needs to change?

All of us need to
Individuals need to make the online
be more real and world a more
express themselves? welcoming place?
The web is for everyone and
collectively we hold the power to
change it.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee,

inventor of the World Wide Web.

Scenarios – What should you do?
Scenario You should….
1 Someone starts
destroying your game
or tries to kill off your
character over and over
again.

2 Someone sends you a

message saying no one
wants to be your friend
because you speak with
a weird accent and wear
funny clothes.

3 You are watching a

make-up tutorial on
YouTube and notice that
a boy has commented,
‘That looks so cool!’
Other people have
commented mocking
him and saying that he
shouldn’t be interested in
this type of thing.

4 You are in a group chat

and your friend is being
mean to somebody else
and removes them from
the chat.
