DEFINITIO
N
Natural history of disease:
“ natural history of disease signifies the way in which a disease evolves over time from the
earliest stage of its pre-pathogenesis phase to its termination as recovery, disability or
death in absence of treatment or prevention”
WHY NA IS IMPORTANT
The process begins with exposure to or accumulation of factors capable of causing disease

NATURAL HISTORY OF
DISEASE
I n c u b a ti o n p e r i o d
the time interval between invasion by an infectious agent and appearance of the first sign or symptom
of the disease in question
L atent period
It is used in non-infectious diseases as the equivalent of incubation period in infectious disease
-”Period from disease initiation to disease detection”
I n f e c ti o u s p e r i o d
the time during which the host can infect another susceptible host
N o n - i n f e c ti o u s p e r i o d
the period when the host’s ability to transmit disease to other hosts ceases
STEPS OF
PATHOGENESIS PHASE
1. Tahap inkubasi
clinical disease) sehingga mudah menegakkan diagnosis.
4. Tahap akhir
sembuh, sembuh tapi cacat, carier, kronik, meninggal.

PRIMARY
PREVENTION
“ an acceptable level of health that will enable every individual to lead a socially and
economically productive life”
It concern’s an individual’s attitude towards life and health and the initiative he takes about
positive and responsible measures for himself, his family and his community.

PREVENTION:
POPULATION
Population strategy is directed towards whole
STRATEGY
population irrespective of individual risk levels
It is defined as
It can be applied only to diseases in which the natural history includes an early period
when it is easily identified and treated so that progress to a more serious stage can be
stopped.
