EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH
DESIGN

2
Research Design

A research design is a framework or

guide used to plan, implement, and
analyze.
It is a systematic plan of what it is should
be done .
3
Experimental Research Design

Experimental research is a scientific

approach to research where the
independent variable is manipulated and
applied to the dependent variable to
measure its effects.
4
Experimental Research Design

The effects of the independent variable

on the dependent variable is observed and
recorded

5
Experimental Research Design

‘observation under controlled conditions’.

The independent variable is manipulated
through treatment or intervention(s).

6
Experimental Research Design

The influence of comic strips towards students’ descriptive

writing ability

7
Characteristics

1. Randomization
2. Manipulation
3. Control

8
Randomization

The participant being assigned either to the experimental group or

the control group.
Randomized sampling:
1. Simple random sampling
2. Systematic random sampling
3. Stratified random sampling
4. Cluster random sampling

9
Randomization

1. Simple Random Sampling

Every member of the population has an equal chance of being
selected. The sampling frame should include the whole population.

-LOTTERY
-FLIP A COIN
-RNG

10
Randomization

2. Systematic Random Sampling

Every member of the population are chosen at regular intervals or
order.

11
Randomization

3. Stratified Random Sampling

Dividing the population into subpopulations that may differ in
important ways

12
Randomization

4. Cluster Random Sampling

dividing the population into subgroups, but each subgroup should
have similar characteristics to the whole sample

13
Manipulation

It is a conscious control of the

independent variable by the researcher
through treatment or intervention.

14
Control

It refers to a group of subjects whose performance is used to

evaluate the performances of the experimental group.
Control and experimental groups are similar in number and
characteristics, but they do not receive experimental treatment.

2 Groups  Experimental Group and Control Group

15
Flow

Pretest  Treatments  Posttest

16
Classification

1. True Experimental Design

2. Quasi-experimental Design
3. Pre-experimental Design

17
True Experimental Design

The researcher conducts a treatment to two randomized groups.

Types of True Experimental Design
1. Pretest-postest group design
2. Posttest only group design
