Times: Hours in a day

Use of a.m. and p.m.

LET US RECALL:
We have learnt that each day is made up of 24 hours.
A day ends at 12 midnight and a new day begins at
the same time at 12 midnight

1 day = 24 hours

12 hours a.m. 12 hours p.m.

The time between 12 midnight
and 12 noon is called a.m.

The time between 12 noon and

12 midnight is called p.m.

We write:
12 noon instead of 12 a.m.
12 midnight instead of 12 p.m.

Thinking in fives
Pg# 167

The clock faces divided into 12

equal units called hours and 60
smaller, equal units called
minutes. So, we divide the 60
minutes into 12 groups of 5
minutes each.
Let us think of a clock face as something we
can slice up, like a cake. How many minutes in
each of these slices?
Think in groups of 5 minutes each.
