Distributed

Ledger
Technology
So,Why banks?
▹ Banks are generally trusted by the public. When people put their
savings into banks, they receive little more than a paper receipt in
return.
▹ Creation of the Money.
▹ Hierarchical trust is being replaced by heterarchical trust –
institutions, which used to represent repositories of knowledge
and expertise, are being displaced by distributed nodes of 2
information. Reviews, friends, rating sites, colleagues, blogs, and
media are the new sources of trust.

What if they fail?

Types of System -

Centralized

Decentralized Distributed
CENTRALIZED SYSTEM -
▹ All users are connected to a central network
owner or “server”.
▹ The central owner stores data, which other
users can access, and also user information. 5

▹ This user information may include user

profiles, user-generated content, and more.
▹ A centralized system is easy to set up and
can be developed quickly.
DE-CENTRALIZED SYSTEM -
▹ Decentralized systems don’t have
one central owner.
▹ Instead, they use multiple central
owners, each of which usually 6
stores a copy of the resources users
can access.
▹ When one or more central owners
or servers fail, the others can
continue to provide data access to
users.
DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM -
▹ It eliminates centralization.
▹ In a distributed system, users have equal
access to data, though user privileges can be
enabled when needed.
▹ Distributed system is safe from the 7
independent failure of components, which
can improve its uptime considerably.
▹ It’s no surprise then that technologies using
the distributed system – most notably the
blockchain – are changing many industries.

Types of DLT’s -
▹ Blockchain
▹ DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) 9

▹ Hashgraph
▹ Holochain
▹ Tempo
10
Where DLT can be used?

Government and business dealings, clean energy,

manufacturing, financial transactions.
Used in tax collection, property deed transfers,
social benefits distribution and even voting 11

procedures.
▹  It can help governments in issuance of
passports, recording land registries, licenses,
and the outlay of Social Security benefits.
Used to process and execute legal documents and
other similar exchanges.
Individuals can use this technology to hold and better
control personal information (individual medical
records and corporate supply chains)
▹ Help better track intellectual property rights and
ownership for art, commodities, music, film.
