Prototyping and
Rapid Testing
Definition
◇ Prototyping and rapid testing is an experimental
process in which design teams transform abstract
concepts into concrete forms from paper to digital.
They create prototypes to capture design ideas and
test them on consumers.

3
CONCEPT:
PROTOTYPING AND
RAPID TESTING
So, how do you get everyone on
1 board and test the viability of your
grand new product without risking it
all?
Concept of Prototyping and Rapid Testing
6
◇ Break Down the Idea to Solve the Problem
-Why does the market need your new product? -What
advantage does it offer over your competitors?
-Why would you want to bring it to market.?

“ ◇ Make a Rough Initial Product

-make your initial product can be accomplished in many
ways

7
◇ Build Your Virtual Product
-sketches need to become a three-dimensional model to
make a real prototype form
◇ Make Iterations and Changes
◇ -, the concept of your prototype should incorporate design

changes to increase manufacturability, increase functionality, and
reduce overall product for your end-customer.
◇ The Reality is Real
-Where your concept is with a finalized design, where you’re ready
to start making tools to create your new product.

Prototyping Development
Process
1. Establish Prototype objectives
-is the start of the process wherein objectives of prototyping should be made
explicit.
2. Define Prototype functionality
-it determines what to put into and what to not put into the system. 3.
Develop Prototype
-is the process of making an executable program and develop the prototype.
4. Evaluate Prototype
-is the final and most important process wherein provisions must be made
for user training and the prototype objectives should be used to develop a plan for
evaluation.
Rapid Testing Process

Clearly define what you Understand the Think through the

want to test audience you want thinnest execution
to reach possible

12
Rapid Testing Process
1. Clearly define what you want to test
-it start with a question like "Does a market exist for this product?“ and focus
on the S.M.A.R.T. goal concept.

2. Understand the audience you want to reach

-use keyword research to understand how buyers are currently seeking similar
products or competing solutions.

3. Think through the thinnest execution possible

-rapid testing can provide you with the blueprint you need to take your business
— whether it’s fledgling or booming — to incredible heights. You might have an
initial direction, but more formalized development, actions, and testing can launch
your profits.

Validate for
Acceptability
Definition
◇ Validate for acceptability is the process of bringing
a product concept to its target market and learning
whether or not the idea is worth pursuing from
those potential customers. This procedure is usually
carried out early in the product development
process, before any significant investment has been
made.

29
CONCEPT:
VALIDATE FOR
ACCEPTABILITY
(MARKET VALIDATION)
DO WE NEED TO VALIDATE OUR
PRODUCT?
THE CONCEPT OF MARKET VALIDATION WAS INVENTED TO
REDUCE THE FAILURE PERCENTAGE OF A BUSINESS AND THE
PRODUCT.
THIS ANSWER THE QUESTIONS, ‘WHO’ WILL BUY YOUR
PRODUCT AND WHY DO THEY NEED TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT.

31
5-step process for idea validation

Idea validation is the process
of testing and validating your
idea prior to launching your
business name, tagline, product,
service or website.

32
Step 1: Brainstorm Internally

33
Step 2: Surveys

34
Step 3: Choose your Interviewees

35
Step 4: Conduct Your Informal Interview

36
Step 5: Review and Decide

37
EXAMPLES:
VALIDATE FOR
ACCEPTABILITY
McDonald’s Corporation
 Ranked 2nd place in the World’s Largest Fast Food
Restaurant Chains according to the WorldAtlas.
 They have established 38, 695 restaurants worldwide.
 Founded in 1948 by the brothers Maurice (“Mac”) and
Richard McDonald in San Bernardino, California.

39
 They bought appliances for their small hamburger restaurant
from salesman Ray Kroc.
 Kroc discovered a simple, efficient format that permitted the
brothers to produce huge quantities of food at low prices.
 Kroc offered to begin a franchise program for the McDonald
brothers.

40
 The company’s stock began trading publicly in 1965 and the
chain continued to expand domestically and internationally.
 It effectively became the most popular family restaurant,
emphasizing affordable food, fun, and flavors that appealed
to children and adults alike.

41
How did McDonald’s maintained
its success?
 The key factors for McDonald’s success in different countries
are adaptation as well as innovation.
 They cater the needs of a consumer market that is widely
diverse, basing their offerings on consumer demographics,
local and economic factors.
 McDonald’s is able to adapt its menu and business plans to
each culture. It respects the differences between cultures and
adheres to the country’s policy when they develop additional
items for their menu.

42
How McDonald’s adapted to the World
 In Japan, it adjusts its name for katakana (used for foreign
words) by using the name Makudonarudo, which not only
sounds attractive but also quite appropriate.
 Because Germans love to eat meat, its burgers combine
Nürnberger sausages with beef. And it’s a known fact that
Germans love their beer with food, so McDonald’s outlets in
Germany also serve beer.

43
How McDonald’s adapted to the World
 McDonald’s adapted to the eating needs of the population by
replacing pork with fish. McDonald’s outlets in Indonesia are
Halal and since Indonesians prefer rice over bread, they serve
rice as well, together with some spicy meals that locals prefer.
 In India, Beef is replaced with chicken. The Maharaja Mac is
the local version of the standard Big Mac.

44
How McDonald’s adapted to the World
 In Morocco, pita bread sandwiches are available. The outlets
also use traditional spices such as coriander and cumin.
 The McRaclette is only served in McDonald’s outlets in
Switzerland which is a beef sandwich with raclette cheese,
unique raclette sauce, onions and gherkin pickles.
