INTRODUCTION
Romanticism was a movement among poets, intellectuals and writers that portrayed the natural
environment the subjective individual, and his or her emotional response to life from a subjective
impressionist perspective.
ROMANTIC ARCHITECTURE
Romantic architecture appeared in the late 18th century in a reaction against the rigid forms of neoclassical
architecture. Romantic architecture reached its peak in the mid-19th century, and continued to appear until the end
of the 19th century. It was designed to evoke an emotional reaction, either respect for tradition or nostalgia for a
bucolic past. It was frequently inspired by the architecture of the Middle Ages, especially Gothic architecture, It
was strongly influenced by romanticism in literature, particularly the historical novels of Victor Hugo and Walter
Scott. It sometimes moved into the domain of eclecticism, with features assembled from different historic periods
and regions of the world.
CONT..
Romantic architecture emphasizes strong emotions as a source of aesthetic experience, putting new stress on
emotions such as fear, horror, and wonder as experienced by a sublime of nature. This movement promotes folk
art, nature and customs, and promotes epistemology based on nature, including human activities conditioned by
nature in the form of language, customs and traditions. Reviewing the explanation of romanticism above, the
architecture of romance is a concept in the design of an architectural building by promoting aesthetic values that
can be an impression and represent history.
