Introduction
The preservation of historical structures in the Philippines has
metamorphosed from the simple approach of treating them as
markers at historical sites to a more complex one involving not
only historical research and documentation but also the use of
technology from such fields as chemistry, engineering and
architecture.

Introduction
There are numerous definitions of a museum. For this paper,
however, we can use the one by the American Association of
Museums which defines a museum as "an organized and
permanent non-profit institution, essentially educational or
aesthetic in purpose, with professional staff, which owns and
utilizes tangible objects, cares for them, and exhibits them to
the public on some regular schedule." Although this definition
is incomplete by today's standards, it encompasses the majority
of the different types of museums all over the country today.

Introduction
Present Senator Loren Leagara, the Chair of the Senate
Committee on Finance stated that “Museums are vessels in
such a way that they house our historical, scientific, artistic,
and cultural artifacts and treasures for everyone to appreciate,
study, and understand. They are repositories of the people’s
skills, talents, knowledge, and ways of life in the past that we
need to preserve and pass on to future generations. Museums
are the best places to go for anyone who wants to deepen their
knowledge and interest in our history, culture, and arts”

Introduction
Community museums are small neighborhood museums which
are either provincial, municipal or city museums. These
museums are established, financed, developed and maintained
by either the local government, a private corporation or a joint
cooperative venture between the two. The National Museum of
the Philippines, which is the repository of the country's natural
and cultural heritage, in addition operates and maintains.

Introduction
Community museums can play a pivotal role in arousing the
interest and enthusiasm of the local population for the
community's important indigenous natural and cultural
heritage. It is at the community level where most people are
first introduced to the functions and programs of museums. A
properly planned community museum can express and
elucidate the community's cultural wealth through the
appropriate presentation and exhibition of their important and
natural and cultural heritage.

Introduction
Museums today are the tools for mass culture. The missions of
museum do not only consist of conserving and exhibiting
treasures and objects that provide us with information but
include the provision of educational tasks. Museums sporting
object centered and self enclosed approaches until the 19th
century have headed towards human centered and outward
looking approaches since the '60s influenced by the changing
world, modern art views and new outlook to museology.

Introduction
Museums have proved that objects are not only for observation and
created a new field called the museum pedagogy. They have started to
get involved with more projects and keep close relationships with the
community to contribute to the education, development and culture of
the communities with the help of the shares they receive from the
public organizations. Many museums today develop and present
different programs that can interest various groups by getting to know
viewer groups better since it is known that the viewer will integrate the
messages with his/her own experience, will be involved with the
objects and topics of interest and the messages created by the curator
cannot be directly imposed upon them.

their own school-based museum that would help preserve the
historical artifacts and places. Nueva Ecija is rich in culture
and history and preserving its history would help make the city
known worldwide. Through a school-based museum the
artifacts that left from the past will be protected and can make
a value to all the sacrifices of the Filipinos’ ancestor who
sacrificed their own blood to get the freedom we all have
