GENERAL INTRODUCTION CONT’D
The candidate must:
✔ explain how the theme is developed in the
Exposition and Reflective sections.
✔Explain how each section contributes to achieving
his/her purpose.
EXPOSITION
⚫ The Oral Presentation is (16 MARKS)
⚫10 MINS long
⚫Select a current topic
⚫Collect two pieces of related information on the
selected topic
⚫Use at least ONE primary and ONE secondary
sources of infromation
EXPOSITION
⚫The speech will feature:
1. A discussion of the issues and challenges
experienced in exploring the selected topic
(This will look at the issues presented in the article or
other source of information and personal/emotional
or practical challenges faced while exploring the
theme).

⚫An evaluation of the effect of sources, context and

medium (or channel) on the reliability and validity of

information gathered
EXPOSITION
⚫ Students are allowed ONE cue card 4x 6 with

headings / main points related to their presentation.

REFLECTION
⚫ This is worth 14 marks
⚫Create ONE sample of original work
⚫Word limit 800 words
⚫Must cover ONE literary genre
⚫Must relate to the theme
REFLECTION
⚫Must include TWO of the following :
❖ Register (range of language choices- level of formality
–available for use in different situations).
❖Dialectal variation ( the ‘version of language used
whether standard, non-standard , basilect, mesolect ,
acrolect)
REFLECTION
⚫Attitudes to language ( how the speaker or audience
within the piece feels about the language spoken)

⚫Communicative Behaviour ( the non-verbal elements

of communication).
REFLECTION
⚫Samples must be creative.

⚫Reflect the elements of creative writing.

PREFACE
Preface is 200 words long.
It MUST identify :
a. The purpose of the sample
b. The intended audience
c. The context ( where the pieces can be presented/
published in order to meet the target audience)
