PASSIVE
Active Voice means that a sentence has a subject that acts upon its verb.
VOICE
Example : The hunter killed the lion
/
That man cleaned the windows. The windows were cleaned by that man
In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it.
Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice, as the following example shows:
In this case, I focus on the fact that a mistake was made, but I do not or guilt anyone
Form of Passive
Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle (3rd column of verbs list)
When rewriting Active Voice Sentences in Passive Voice, note the following:
The Object of the Active Sentence becomes the Subject of the Passive Sentence
The form of the verb in Passive Form is (to be + Past Participle)
The Subject of the Active Sentence becomes the Object of the Passive Sentence
CHANGE INTO PASSIVE VOICE THE SENTENCE IN ACTIVE VOICE AND INTO ACTIVE VOICE
1. As in Spanish, the passive voice is formed with the verb 'to be' (SER O ESTAR)
and the Past Participle of the Principal verb, (3rd column of verbs list)
The passive voice is usually used when it is unknown or not interesting to mention “who” or “what” does
the action
EXAMPLE: - German is spoken here
- When was this house built?
- Many songs have been written about love
1. Meal is cooked here every day. (P A S S I V E)
WRITE IN PARENTHESES (“P”) IF THE SENTENCES IS IN PASSIVE
