“FIGHT DENGUE, USE GMELINA BARK EXTRACT AS ANTI-MOSQUITO
LOTION”

INTRODUCTION
Malamawi Island is a place known for its beautiful beach called “white beach”.
People from nearby cities come and visit just to enjoy and see the beautiful beach that
captivates the heart of many Basileños. The white sands that make the water clear that
enhances everyone to swim and enjoy the freshness of nature.
Above this beach is a verdant mountain called “Mount San Juan”. Here grows several
big-trees including Gmelina Trees. This trees is a fast growing tree that bears many fruits
that easily dispersed by animals. When cows and goats eat the fruits, they scatters the
seeds as they move them out as their wastes. So no need of planting this trees because it
grows anywhere. Aside from it easily germinates it is not a problem when the tree is cut it
continuous to propagate.
The lumber of this tree is very useful especially in building construction or making
furniture because termites do not destroy the lumber.
Here in Malamawi, we have several cases of dengue, to ease this problems, the
researcher is looking forward to find ways and means to eradicate dengue mosquitoes
carrier using natural element. The Gmelina Bark Extract to fight against dengue.
B.
RESEARCH QUESTION:

• Is gmelina bark extract effective in

preventing dengue disease?

• Is it economical way of preventing

dengue disease?
C.
RATIONALE:

Philippines is a poor country where in most of the people are

suffering because of poverty. Many people die because they cannot buy
medicines or to be hospitalized. There is a saying that “prevention is
better than cure” so while we are not yet attack by dengue, we will now
find something to prevent the killer disease using natural element with
less effort.

This study if found effective would help solve one of the serious
health problem in our country is dengue, the killer disease that being
brought by mosquito bites. This study is centered on the use of gmelina
bark extract as anti-mosquito lotion.
D.
OBJECTIVE/GOAL:

In this experimental study, the researcher

intends to introduce the idea of using
Gmelina Bark Extract as Anti-mosquito
Lotion in prevention of DENGUE.
E.

G.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION:

During the making process of “Gmelina

Bark Extract Anti-Mosquito Lotion”, I found
out that it has bitter taste that will make the
mosquito to be drived away.
If termites do not eat this kind of
tree, perhaps it is also good to be used as
anti-mosquito lotion as prevention against
dengue.
H.
CONCLUSION:

Based on the experiment, Gmelina bark

extract is good as a source of anti-mosquito
lotion to be used as prevention against
dengue especially to those who cannot afford
to buy commercial anti-mosquito lotion.
I.
RECOMMENDATION:

Encourage people to use Gmelina Bark

Extract as prevention against dengue in an
economical way.
