Function of MPU

 MPU: the main processing unit . The "brain" of SM. Responsible for

equipment controlling of SM.

 Directly control the boards of MCF through bus.

 MCF --- main control frame

 Control user and trunk circuits (via the nodes)

 Receive the ASL and trunk state through the node on the NOD
board, and send commands to them

 Control the signal sending of SIG: Control the sending of tone signals

and voice signals by the SIG board according to the subscriber state

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. All rights reserved Page 21

Function of MPU

 Control signaling transceiving: Control the receiving and sending of

MFC signals by the MFC board according to the state of the local us
ers and trunks

 Control NET board to handle the call connection

 Communicate with AM/CM through LAPMC2

 Communicate with the O&M system and load MPU software through

the HDLC synchronous serial port

 Perform the switchover between active and standby MPU and hot da

ta backup in collaboration with EMA board

EMA

EMA (Emergency automatic switchover board)

 Handling the communication between MPUs, and providing dat

a backup path

 Selecting the active MPU

 Controlling the switchover between the active and standby

 By default, EMA takes MPUA as the active one when power

ed on.

 In the case of single configuration, EMA takes no effect.

NOD

NOD ( communication node board )

 Responsible for the communication between the MPU and boa

rds in user frame and trunk frame

 11 NOD slots for each SM

 Provides 4 main nodes

 Each main node includes 1 mailbox, 1 CPU, and 1 serial port

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. All rights reserved Page 25

NOD

 Main node & MPU: Communicate through mailbox

 Main node & sub nodes: Communicate through serial ports in

the broadcast mode

 Node forwards the commands issued by the MPU to the sub

nodes, and reports the state of the sub nodes to the MPU.
