The auditory system
The auditory system positioned together with vestibular
system inside the ear. This system enable a person to
identify where a sound coming from and to differentiate
among various sounds.

Normal hearing ranges from 0 to 25dB loss is the best


ear without the assistance of any artificial aid.

FOUR TYPES OF HEARING LOSS
(a) Conductive Loss
Reduced sound travelling through the air
passage of the external and middle ear.
Tend to speak softly because of their own voice
reverberate or resound in their ears
(b) Sensorineural Loss
Generally more serious
Damage to the auditory nerve (nerve that transmit
the waves sound to the brain) or one of the
structure in inner ear, e.g cochlea

(c)Mixed loss
The combination of the conductive and sensorineural loss
The perceived sound is weak and distorted

(d)Psychogenic
Psychological hearing disability with no know organic
source
Can be correctable through appropriate counseling
