SENSE OF THOHAROH
• According to the language, thaharah means clean and pure
from all impurities, both real as unclean and unreal as a
disgrace. When people say, "Tathahhara bi 'l-mai", it means:
he cleans himself from dirt with water. While, "Tathahhara
mina'l-hasadi", meaning: he is holy from spite.
• According to shaa', thaharah means: to do something to be
allowed to pray – or other things that are punished by it – ,
such as widlu' for people who do not have wudlu', bathing for
people who are obliged to bathe, and removing uncleanness
from clothing, body and place of prayer.
LEGAL BASE OF THOHAROH
• Thaharah is purity, purity or place. Not only that, thaharah is
the most important feature of Islam.
• So clean or chastity referred to here is the cleanness or purity
of a Muslim woman in a born and inner, so both body and
place or cleanse the heart from all liver diseases such as spite
and envy.
• In this case Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said:
(‫ون* ِ إاَّل َمْنَأتَى َهَّللا ِ بقَ ْل ٍب َسلِ ٍيم‬
َ ُ‫) َ ي ْو َم اَل َ ي ْنفَ ُع َ ٌمال َواَل َ بن‬
"On the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail,
except those who stand before Allah with clean hearts." (QS)
Ash Shu'araa:88-89).
SUBSTANCE AND PHILOSOPHY OF THOHAROH

• From Abu Hurayrah radhiyallahu'anhu, the Messenger of Allaah

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
« ‫إِ َذا َ ت َوضَّأَ ْال َع ْب ُد ْال ُم ْسلِ ُم– أَ ِو ْال ُم ْؤ ِم ُن– َ ف َغ َس َل َوجْ هَ ُه َخ َر َج ِمْن َوجْ ِه ِه ُك ُّل َخ ِطيئَ ٍة‬
‫ط ِر ْال َما ِء – َ فإِ َذا َغ َس َل َ ي َدي ِْه َخ َر َج ِمْن َ ي َدي ِْه ُ ُّكل‬ ْ ‫َ نظَ َر ِ َإلي َْها ِ ب َع ْينَي ِْه َم َع ْال َما ِء – أَ ْو َم َع آ ِخ ِر َ ق‬
‫ط ِر ْال َما ِء – َ فإِ َذا َغ َس َل ِرجْ لَي ِْه َخ َر َج ْت ُك ُّل‬ ْ ‫َخ ِطيئَ ٍة َك َان َ بطَ َش ْت َها َ ي َد ُاه َم َع ْال َما ِء – أَ ْو َم َع آ ِخ ِر َ ق‬
‫وب‬ َ ‫ط ِر ْال َما ِء – َحتَّى َ ي ْخر‬
ِ ُ‫ًّا ِم َن ال ُّذن‬J‫ُج َ نقًِي‬ ْ ‫اله َم َع ْال َما ِء – أَ ْو َم َع آ ِخ ِر َ ق‬
ُ َ ْ‫» َخ ِطيئَ ٍة َم َش ْت َها ِرج‬.
"If a Muslim servant or believer does wudoo', then he washes his
face, it will come out of his face with the water -or with the last drop
of water- all the mistakes he made with his eyes. If he washes his
hands, he will come out of them with the water, or with the last drop
of water. When he washes his feet, he will go out with water or with
the last drop of water, all the wrong he has done with his feet, until he
will come out clean from sins." (HR. Muslims in the Book of al-
Thaharah)
WAY OF THOHAROH
• Mandatory Bathing
Mandatory bathing is a bath with the aim of eliminating large
hadas which is often also referred to as Janabat bath or junub
bath.
• Wudoo'
Wudoo' is a purified way to remove small hadas.
• TAYAMUMM
Once we were having small or large hadas. While we must pray
immediately. However, at that time there was no water available
or could not use water because of something. Well, the solution
is tayammum by using holy dust.
