PAST TENSE

1 Simple Past

This tense is used to describe an action that has already happened.


- Structure : [ subject + verb in past form ]
- Example : [ I walked to work today ]

2 Past Perfect

This tense is used to describe an action that was finished before another past action.
- Structure : [ subject + had + verb past participle ]
- Example : [ I had finished my homework to give to my teacher, but she had already left ]
PAST TENSE

3 Past Continuous
This tense is used to describe an action that was ongoing. This action may have been
interrupted or another action also occurred.
- Structure : [ subject + was/were + verb (-ing) ]
- Example : [ I was working all day to finish my homework ]

4 Past Perfect Continuous

This tense is used to describe an action that started in the past and continued till another
action or time in the past.
- Structure : [ subject + had been + verb (-ing) ]
- Example : [ It had been raining all day, so I couldn’t walk to work ]

out for some time in the past.

- Example : [ By last new year I should have been working at that office for 5 years ]
