Mission

● To serve the American people and, through the universal service obligation, bind our nation together by maintaining and operating our
unique, vital and resilient infrastructure.
● To provide trusted, safe and secure communications and services between our Government and the American people, businesses and their
customers, and the American people with each other.
● To serve all areas of our nation, making full use of evolving technologies.

Vision

“My vision is to establish the Postal Service as the preferred delivery service for the American public. I am committed to providing world-class
affordable and dependable service to every American home and business six and seven days a week — today, tomorrow and for generations to
come,” DeJoy said during a National Postal Customer Council (PCC) Day virtual event on Sept. 22.

Environmental Analysis
By performing an environmental analysis and determining the target market, we were able to fully understand the threats facing the
USPS along with the demographic they should be focused on.

● Barriers to entry are high so threat of new entrants is low

● Bargaining power of buyers is low/weak based on the high amount of buyers relative to the amount of mail delivery services

● Bargaining power of suppliers is low, based on the availability of suppliers and the ability of USPS to make immediate

purchases from those suppliers

● Threat of substitute products or services would be low to medium for USPS

● Industry rivalry can be considered medium to high due to competitors all fighting for the small margins gained from each

customer and the large potential customer base available

● Target market groups: businesses and the average person

Strengths Weaknesses

S ●

Extensive delivery coverage of United
States
Brand Recognition
Extensive network of mailboxes
Extensive network of facilities

Lack ability to integrate technology into
business
Lack modern technology
Lack of diversity in leadership

W Opportunities Threats

O ●

E-Commerce
Electric vehicle technology
Integrate self-service options outside of
post office

Mindset of younger generation’s view of
mail causing decline in usage
Subject to state and government politics
for changes and funding

T
● Private Competition
● Government Agency Mistrust and
underappreciation
Competitive Advantage
The competitive advantage that the USPS holds is that they are the official mail provider of the United States and
government owned.

● Being government owned gives them the advantage of government funding, tax exemptions and federal
resources.
○ 10 billion dollar emergency loan in 2020 from COVID impacts
● They get sole access to mailboxes.
● Their competitors also use their services to reach rural addresses that only the USPS has the ability to deliver
to.
● They have the ability to deliver even directly after a catastrophic event.
● Understood through an industrial organization lens externally.
● No other competitor will be able to match this aspect of their business.
Going Global-Cambodia
Flag of Cambodia

Expanding to the country of Cambodia can help grow USPS internationally. Below is a list of a few benefits USPS can gain from expanding into Cambodia
●Cambodia is a country on the Mainland of Southeast Asia
○One of the current currency expected is the US dollar
●Receiving packages can take months to be received and most small packages may never arrive
○USPS can fill the gap that most shipping companies do not ship to Cambodia
○USPS can provide a post office mail box for residents so they are more likely to receive their mail
○USPS can bring in other business and have them use their services to deliver
●Economy is in a downfall due to mail not being delivered
○USPS can help with Cambodia exports getting to the other countries on time
○USPS can help with bring in more imports for business to sell
■Better prices for consumers
●Prices can currently change due to the mood of the post office worker at the time
○USPS can set a standard price that the residents can expect to pay at any post office at any time
○USPS can make sure residents of economic sectors will be able to send and receive mail
●Build trust within the new country
○Will have board within Cambodia, made of its own residents
○Bring in new economy to the Country
Recommendations
1. Continue to diversify leadership to reach a younger demographic and remain in touch with more groups.

2. Become a green leader by transforming vehicle fleet electric/autonomous and securing more government funding from green energy plants.

3. License the use of mailboxes to third party delivery companies by partnering with private companies who have the potential to expand

delivery network.

4. Continuous evaluation of cheapest transportation techniques (bus, boat, train, plane).
