About the school?
• Chandrakant Singh, a M.Tech from IIT Bombay has
started ‘Chaitanya Gurukul Trust’
• a story of unique enterprise and innovative
methods in school education
• Set-up in a remote village at Chamanpura village of
Gopalganj district in Bihar
• village still doesn’t have electricity
• the school has 45 rooms, 2 Wi-Fi enabled floors, 4
volleyball courts, 4 badminton courts and a cricket
pitch (swimming pool is under construction) – i.e. a
world class infrastructure
How it started
• Advisor to Project - Surya Narayan, dean of IIT,
Mumbai
• a business plan for a revenue-generating, self-
sustaining model instead of taking the charity
route
• A 100-page plan — a blueprint for a Rs 30-crore
campus that would be completed over 10 years,
including a school, an engineering college and
an R&D centre
• e-mailed the plan to 3,000 friends, eight of
whom agreed to fund it
OPERATION OF SCHOOL

• about 450 children, both boys and girls, right


from Class I to Class VII
• lessons in physics, chemistry, mathematics and
computer through Skype, video conferencing
and Internet
• Eight of Singh's associates, sitting in various
corners of the world, have joined hands to teach
• 16 teachers, who reside on the campus, are
helping the students in their studies
• Every year, one more class is sought to be
opened at the school
Unique Teachers
• Chandrakant Singh now based in Bangalore,
teaches from his work place
• M. Vats, a US-based technocrat teaches math
• Pankaj Kumar of NTPC, a technocrat, teaches
physics from Singrauli
• Sanjay Rai, of HAL an alumnus from BITS,
Pilani, teaches chemistry from Korwa in UP
Participatory Component
• state government approved the proposal
• the friends, who formed the trust, met the
villagers and convinced them about the school
• Within three months, 13 acres of land from
100 villagers, who sold plots from 3 decimals
to an acre in the area
• tuition fee starts from Rs. 300 for Class I and is
increased annually by Rs. 100 as a child goes
to a higher class
