Consideration on mechanical damage report

1. Chemical damage:
1. Feasibility of steel shield mounting on the bifurcation in concrete lining. Any alternative as resin
paint?
2. Feasibility of remedy for the intrados and extrados corrosion of steel lining:
1. ICCP
2. Galvanic protection (seems not to be feasible)
3. Coating more technical details (to vast section 5.2 of “SER 6760L”)
2. Mechanical damage:
1. Referring to “S2-CIV-PP-UPP-2301 –rev B”, section 3.6 & section 5 needs to be reviewed:
1. check for the approach,
2. Check the calculations
3. Control all procedures.
2. Vibration frequencies generated by turbines down stream and upstream shall be compared with
natural frequency of the penstock.
3. Check fatigue analysis on the bends, specially for the concrete lining.

ICCP for steel lining
• Titanium tubular mesh
embedded in concrete
• Will be installed on the

ICCP configuration 1 •
supports of the steel lining
No need for backfill
electrolyte, since concrete is
Power supply: 4-8 mA/m2 (to already saturated.
• Service life more than 20
be calculated)
years, no need to change the
anode (50-100 years in
concrete)
• To study on the calculation.

Steel lining
Tubular titanium anodes to obtain
more uniform current distribution
ICCP configuration 2 (difficult to reach)
• Titanium tubular mesh
embedded in concrete
• Encompass the steel
lining
• Mesh size adopted with
max aggregate size.
