USE of ICT in healthcare

1. Health & Education

2. Hospital Management System
3. Health Research
4. Health Data Management
Health & Education

• In this Digital era,

• This makes education accessible, available and open to
all.
• Health education creates awareness among the public
about the communicable diseases, health status,
prevention measures and various current diagnostic &
therapeutic procedures.
• This gives a freedom to the people to choose the best
hospitals and doctors to approach for treatment and to
have their life in a healthy way.
• Example:
• Online journal, Wikipedia, webpages etc.
Hospital Management

• This helps the management to overcome the challenges

faced by the Hospital.
• ICT helps the management to improve the patient safety and
satisfaction, get updated to the latest technology, have a
knowledge on population health & statistics and keep a note
on the government mandates on track.
• Example :
• Telemedicine
Health Research

• ICT in health care research helps in finding the possible

prevention measures to eradicate and reduce the spread of
diseases.
• We can find new technology in diagnosis which reduces the
time and cost.
• This saves the lives of many individuals by providing
treatment in advance.
• Through ICT, the traditional healthcare systems can be
eliminated and new models can be formed for effective
quality care.
Health Data Management

• The fundamental use of ICT in Hospital is for electronic

storage of medical data.
• Through ICT the data can be transferred to the patient or to
the Doctors for consultation. The patient can have medical
records in hand which can be used anywhere, anytime.
• Example :
 HMIS(Health Management Information System)
 LMIS(Logistic Management Information System)

Appropriate use of ICT
 Decision making
Decision should be made on selecting which means of ICT
should be used

 Context and Content

Deciding which technologies to use should be determined
mainly by specific local contexts and contents.
Context and content factors are critically important in
considering ICT use and scale-up including :
•Local content creation
•Language used
•Relevance of content to the local situation
12
Contd…
 Demand
People demand on ICT should be considered

 Language
With the exception of radio and television programming, the
issue of language is frequently addressed in ICT programs
(most of which offer very little content in local languages)
ICT should be based upon the updated information and
guidance in a language people can easily understand

ICTs ,its Types and Appropriate Use
ICT Type of ICT Appropriate use
1.Radio Audio- aid Message relayed in the form of
technology lecturer, story, songs, news, drama or
dialogue.
Short and sweet message
Message should be easy to
understand
Gives good result through the
participatory information sharing
2.Television Audio visual Use of dramatic and organized
aid presentation
Prepared for a specific group of
audience
Stimulating, entertaining, and
effective. type of learning
