Noise Pollution

NOISE MITIGATION TO OVERCOME
NOISE POLLUTION
 Understand what causes noise pollution.
 As the world becomes more advanced, noise

increases.
 The most common form of noise pollution

now is from transportation, mainly cars,

motorbikes, and aircraft.
Solutions for Noise Pollution
 Planting bushes and trees in and around sound
generating sources is an effective solution for noise
pollution.

 Regular servicing and tuning of automobiles can

effectively reduce the noise pollution.

 Buildings can be designed with suitable noise absorbing

material for the walls, windows, and ceilings.

 Workers should be provided with equipments such as ear

plugs and earmuffs for hearing protection.
Solutions for Noise Pollution
 Similar to automobiles, lubrication of the machinery and
servicing should be done to minimize noise generation.

 Soundproof doors and windows can be installed to block

unwanted noise from outside.

 Regulations should be imposed to restrict the usage of play

loudspeakers in crowded areas and public places.

 Factories and industries should be located far from the

residential areas.
SOLUTIONS FOR NOISE POLLUTION
 Community development or urban management
should be done with long-term planning, along
with an aim to reduce noise pollution.

 Social awareness programs should be taken up to

educate the public about the causes and effects of
noise pollution.

ROLE OF THE POLLUTION PREVENTION
& CONTROL (PPC) Division

The PPC Division attends to all environmental

complaints received at the Ministry and works in
close coordination with the Post-EIA Division, the
ICZM Division and the Police de L’Environnement.

Major types of environmental complaints

addressed include pollution issues related to air,
noise, water, solid waste and odour.
Complaints are usually handled via a mechanism
called the Complaint-Handling Protocol.
Reduce Public Demand
 Encourage use of equipment that do not
cause noise pollution
 Protest and boycott businesses that blatantly

promote noise pollution

 Work with manufacturers and installers

◦ Who act in good faith

◦ Hold them to a set of standards to protect the
public
Safe Equipment Operation Around
On-foot Workers

 Separate on-foot workers from

equipment as much as possible
 Design the work space and operations to

eliminate/minimize backing and blind

spots
 Train workers and equipment operators

on communication methods
 When necessary, use a spotter so the

vehicles do not run over workers or back

into other vehicles
PROTECTION FROM THE RECEIVER.

 Noise is the most

widely accepted in the
industrial sector.
 Hence, employees who
received the noise
should wear protective
system that is wearing
ear damper.
 If an employee is not
wearing ear damper, it
could result in a deaf
ear.
INCREASE THE PATHWAY DISTANCE.

 Usually that involves the addition of noise is

the aircraft path length @ the aircraft where
the flight path should be diverted from the
area has a population of so many people are
not exposed to the noise of aircraft engines.
NOISE BARRIER
 Buffer zones
 Earth berms/wooden
fences/concrete walls
 Vegetation (if dense enough)
NOISE BARRIER
 Plants are not effectively
filter the noise.
 The most effective buffer
is to raise the lower
highway @ to build a
physical match on the
side of the road.
 Therefore, it can filter /
block the noise.
 But these methods have
disadvantages, in which
the wall will block the
ventilation road.
 Cause the collection of
hazardous air pollutants.
WAYS TO PREVENT OR MINIMIZE
NOISE POLLUTION
 Understand what causes noise  Plant more and more trees around your

more advanced, noise increases. The generated by the vehicles or any other
most common form of noise appliances in your house and help in

any parts that have deteriorated and
need to be replaced.  Spread awareness among people about
the effects of noise pollution
and encourage them to reduce noise
 Noise limits should be stated by pollution.
government: to control the noise
pollution from the industries and
vehicles.  Do not use car horns unnecessarily:
Areas like hospitals and campuses are
silence zones and honking is
 Factories should use the machineries prohibited there.
that make less noise: Replace all the
machineries in the industries with
the advanced ones that make less
 Turn off the engine of your car or

stops the annoying hum.
