Exactly in which year this island was discovered is still unidentified.
Around 250 years ago, the first settlement of this island started by the Arabian sailors.

THE ANGLO-BURMESE WAR
Throughout the year 1824-1826 the first Anglo-Burmese war between the British and
the Burmese Empire, there was a major fight concerning the ownership of this island.

During British occupation, the island was named

after the then Deputy Commissioner of During British rule, an army officer named

person of Captain Hiram Cox. For some
period, Saint Martin stayed at the Jinjira
island. To keep him as a memory of Mr. Cox’s
beloved person, he named this island as the
‘Saint Martin’.

In late 18th Century, few Rakhain communities started to live on this island.
Toral Sikhder bought this place and sold it to Mohammad Ibrahim.
At the end of 19th century, Mohammad Ibrahim started to live in the island with some
families.
