 Life expectancy is estimate of the average
number of additional years a person may
expect to live, based on the age specific death
rates for a given year.
 Life expectancy is hypothetical measure and a

Life good indicator of current health conditions in

a country. Life experience are known to differ
according to factors such as socio-economic
Expectancy status, gender and ethnicity. For instance,
people of upper and middle class outlive
those of the lower class. Also some
researcher have also shown that life
expectancy is associated with marital status.
It is a known fact that married men and
women tends outlive single men and women.

expectancy for Jamaica in 2020 is 74.55 years,
a 0.15% increase from 2019.

 Maximum life span (or, for humans, maximum reported
age at death) is a measure of the maximum amount of
time one or more members of a population have been
observed to survive between birth and death.
  Lifespan is often confused with life expectancy however,
lifespan refers to the maximum number of years an
individual can live, life expectancy refers to an estimate or
an average number of years a person can expect to live.
Most simply put, life expectancy can be attributed to and
impacted by an individual and their personal health
history, genetics, and lifestyle, whereas lifespan holds for
all living humans.
Replacement level fertility” the average number of children
born per woman—at which a population exactly replaces
itself from one generation to the next, without migration.

Natural increase is the surplus of births over death in a given country for a particular year. Conversely, natural
decrease is the deficit of births over death in a given country for a particular year.

Formula

NI = Number of births in a given year – Number of death in a given year.

A NEGATIVE VALUE INDICATES A DEFICIT OF BIRTHS OVER DEATH.

The population of Jamaica is expected to grow by 7,000 in 2020 and reach 2,919,000 in 2021.
Migration (including immigration and emigration) decreases population by 17,999 people yearly. On
average there are 45,754 births and 20,991 deaths in Jamaica per year. Rate of natural increase is
approximately 0.85 percent per year. The population density of Jamaica has changed from 199.7 in
1980 to 267.7 in 2018.
Quality of Life Index
Quality of life (QOL) is the general well-being of individuals and societies, outlining negative
and positive features of life. It consists of the expectations of an individual or society for a
good
life. These expectations are guided by the values, goals and socio-cultural context in which an
individual lives.
Quality of life includes everything from physical health, family, education, employment,
wealth,
safety, security to freedom, religious beliefs, and the environment.
Standard indicators of the quality of life include not only wealth and employment but also the
built environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, and
social belonging.
According to World Health Org. Quality of life Index is the individual's perception of their
position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation
to their goals.
Quality of life index is a quantitative measurement that is used emotional well being as
standard to measure such as joy, stress, sadness, anger, and affection...the frequency of these
emotions and Life Evaluation - respondents are asked to think about their life in general and
evaluate against a scale. Some argue that quality of life can simply mean happiness (the
subjective mind).

Quality of Life Index have been replaced by HDI (HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX)
