LITERATURE REVIEW
• In the proposed paper, there is a detailed view of a road map about, how
development and implementation framework can be used by manufactures
related to pharmaceutical companies who want to implement Six Sigma and
Lean Management.
• Literature review is important here to understand what basically is lean six
sigma.
SIX SIGMA USAGE AND IMPLEMENTATION

• It is an approach which aims to figure out the emerging defect causes in different
processes of business by just considering the outputs which are important in judgment of
customers and then to reduce or eliminate those defects.
• The principles of Six Sigma is used to reduce the variation in processes and in turn lead
to better quality.
• Some studies show that it is the application focused on Manufacturing Processes.
• Study shows many people use MAIC (Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control )cycle as its
essential for continuous improvement.
CASE STUDY
• A case study (Slovenian Manufacturing) shows that the important factors for Six
Sigma are:
• Infrastructure
• Change in Culture
• Linkage of Six Sigma with Employees
• Management oriented factors include:
• Unification of Lean Six Sigma with Business Strategy
• Determination of correct processes and project
• Guaranteed satisfaction of customers
• Organization’s structure and culture based on quality
• Coaching and mentoring , Management and Control
UNIFICATION OF SIX SIGMA AND LEAN
MANAGEMENT
• The basic integration conception of Six Sigma and lean management initiated in 1997 by the
attempt of BAE systems.
• In the light of business perspective, Six Sigma can be regarded as a continuous improvement
process for organizations to focus on such activities that result in increased satisfaction of the
customer.
• The unification of lean Six Sigma is a better approach because it is an integration of process
features and human characteristics for developing the subsequent actions to be taken.
• Lean Six Sigma can be regarded as business methodology for enhanced customer satisfaction,
increased performance effectiveness and better results.
• Lean management tools and techniques constitute employee involvement, value stream
mapping, continuous process improvement.
STRATEGIES REGARDING SIX SIGMA
• Quality focused activities have been accepted at a strategic level based upon the reduction of costs.
• Six Sigma plays a vital part in the development of the organizational capability.
• Six Sigma can be considered a disciplined approach for the elimination of defects in
manufacturing processes and products.
• Six Sigma is highly effective approach which aims towards the continuous improvement and
yields higher rates of profitability and productivity.
• Six Sigma is driven by the DMAIC approach.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT AND SIX
SIGMA
• Process Performance is defined by the Law of Six Sigma development. The
value of Six Sigma (3.4 defects/million) carries significant importance.
• Other than Six Sigma, the least utilized tools in the companies include Kano
model, statistical processes and the quality diffusion function.
• It is based upon the management tactics applied within the organizational
framework.
MOTIVATION

• Six sigma is a structured model, the objective is to minimize or eliminate variances in the
processes and the goal is to achieve strategic objectives of the firm.
• As, traditional management methodologies can not cater the already existent business
requirements efficiently, so this is the right time to shift to Six Sigma in Pharmaceutical
industry.
• Six Sigma is based on three things:
• improvement of customer satisfaction
• reduction of costs
• increase in profits
MOTIVATION
• The Goal is to:
• Improve Processes
• Focus on customer needs
• Minimize defects
• Lowering Deviations in process
• Enhancing the capacity

• achieve happiness of the customer & better efficiency by mitigation of waste

• The advantage of combining the two major techniques is basically the reduction of costs
which is accomplished by defect minimization in the product and ultimately reaching the
organization’s excellence.
METHODOLOGY
• A keen consideration is taken, as we can not neglect the
importance of methodology in conducting any research.
• Implementation of Lean Management and Six Sigma combine
is a very difficult job with several steps involved.
• Normally, two approaches are used for methodology;
Descriptive approach and Analytical approach.
• Our paper follows, descriptive approach.
STEPS INVOLVED IN METHODOLOGY
• Following steps are involved in methodology:

Examine
Develop Implement
Manufacturing Data Collection Data Analysis
Questionnaire Lean Six Sigma
Process
CONCLUSION
• Thorough research is available as an evidence of the researchers regard for this topic in the field of
medicine.
• The optimization process of medicines and the efficiency of laboratory management is a result of
successful exploitation of the Lean Six Sigma strategy.
• Furthermore, this unified approach of Lean Six Sigma, leading to continual improvement and
enhanced efficiency, can be applied to other processes or industries.
• This approach has paved ways for various sectors of future research.
