Hope For The Underrated Youth

FMP- Music Video

Beth Talmer-Jones
Context
• 3 initial ideas
All of my ideas stuck within the theme of LGBTQ+ as I knew this was what I wanted
to create my FMP on due to the lack of well represented representation in
mainstream media.

The three songs I was debating between:

“all the things she “Kate's not here” – girl in “hope for the underrated
said” – Poppy cover red youth”- Yungblud
Social Context
• What is the message?

. My aim is to create this sense of hope through cinematography and short narratives. I
am spreading the message that regardless of what you might be facing firsthand and
regardless of how difficult this may be, you're not alone and you don't have to go through
it alone. There will be acceptance and light at the end of the tunnel.

• Why does my production matter?

It matters because it's real. I am not going to glamourize anything, I'm telling a very real,
very common story, highlighting how important these issues are. As well as creating light
to those who are struggling and in similar position, making them feel seen and not alone.
What I am producing
• I am going to be creating a music video with a short
narrative/film section at the start and end, the actual
“music video” section being sandwiched in-between.

• As a part of the film festival I am working towards,

my piece has to be themed within the LGBTQ+
community, they want everyone working toward this
competition to have as much creative freedom as
possible. Only stated rules:
• Non English productions MUST be subtitled in English
• ALL filming and footage MUST be entirely your own
and produced 100% by that who is submitting
• ANY help credited
My Idea
• “hope for the underrated youth”

Outline: a music video showing there is always hope for

people within the LGBTQ+ community feeling lost and
unaccepted as well as raising awareness of these issues
more openly to people outside of the community, allowing
a very real view and take on how the acceptance of basic
human rights is still nowhere near where it should be.
• There is a sheer lack of genuine LGBTQ+
representation out there.

Why I feel The only way to normalize something like this

is going to be through media coverage but
this is coverage in a way that is true to the
community, not done by artists that aren’t
necessary to apart of it.

Information
•I chose to work towards Film Pride- Brighton and
Hove film festival

This specific festival has been running for three years now but
is a part of the much more well-known “Brighton Pride.”
Which is one of the biggest pride events in the world.

There is no physical “prize” for being selected, if you win then your

production will be showcased at the festival and on the Brighton and Hove
local TV channel as well as 13 others around the UK
