DESCRIBE A WORK OF

ART THAT YOU HAVE

SEEN
PART 2: DESCRIBE A WORK OF ART THAT YOU HAVE SEEN.

When it comes to this topic, I would like to talk about a painting I
came across several years ago in an art gallery – the most popular
piece of art/ artwork worldwide: “MONA LISA’, a painting by a
reputable Renaissance Italian artist.

1. WHEN YOU SAW THIS WORK OF ART

To the best of my memory, I can’t remember vividly, but as far
as I recall, I saw that picture for the first time nearly 3 years
ago, when I graduated from high school and participated in
international exposition in Hanoi. I don’t understand why but
at that time I was absolutely excited to discover the painting
surrounding the exhibition hall.

2. WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE
Needless to say, the painting is a real masterpiece and
outstanding from other pieces in the exhibition due to the
unique portrait and decorations.
3. WHAT THE CONTENT OF THE WORK OF ART IS
Up to now, there have been some debatable theories about Mona
Lisa. This is a half-length portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of
Francesco del Giocondo and it is believed to be painted between
1503 and 1506.

I must say that the painting revealed the hidden beauty of the
woman with secret smile and warm-hearted face. The colors were
mixed perfectly with bright color tones which made Mona Lisa
gorgeous and sparkling. The specific features of women under the
Renaissance time period were also uncovered through his
impeccable painting skill.
4. WHAT YOUR IMPRESSION OF THE WORK OF ART IS

To be honest, I'm very interested in this work of art, mostly
because of its history and mysteries. The painting has been
stolen for several times. There was a time people even thought
that it would never be found again.

One of the most curious things about the picture is Mona
Lisa's smile, or half smile, to be precise. It has been said that
whether it is a happy smile or sad one depends on the mood of
the observer.
PART 3:

1. What is the value of art in society?
Art plays an indispensable part which help human express ideas
and provoke emotional response in those who experience it.
In particular, people use different works of art to pass ideas to
other people so art is like a translator. Art transfers the mundane
physical materials into a beautiful work of art in a nuanced way.
2. Do young people go to art museums?
Well, nowadays, youngsters have realized the significance of art in
human life and they are more interested in visiting art galleries
and museums than they used to in the past.
Besides, parents nowadays often take their children to art displays
as this is an ideal way to provoke their thoughts and cultivate their
minds.
3. Do you think art plays an important role in society?
Yes, there is no doubt that art exerts huge impacts on human’s
thinking. A good work of art could help a person fulfill himself. Ar
t is a sign and it shows people’s ideas. Art is not forgotten after
years as it approaches human’s hearts.
Evenly, it is believed that art is stronger and more powerful than a
famous quote or a passionate speech.
4. Do you think it’s possible for everyone to become an artist?
Well, on the one hand, I have experienced a lot of people with
innate characteristics to become an artist.
However, on the other hand, there are people with hidden talents
and they need to be given chances to shine.

5. What are the differences between modern art in Vietnam
and traditional Vietnamese art?
Traditional arts in Vietnam are more peaceful and calm, like a
water-ink painting of a mountain or a river. It was more about
nature and how people appreciated the beauty of nature.
However, nowadays, modern artists often convey messages via
their paintings. There is also a wide variety of art works, ranging
from paintings, sculptures to statues.
6. Many artists make very little money from their work. Do
you think the government should financially support these
artists?
Not every artist is lucky enough to have works that sell well. In
actual fact, many artists are still struggling with a vicious circle
while art plays an indispensable role in human life so the
government should sponsor art.
However, many others hold the belief that national budget should
be allocated into basic welfare like health care and education and
investing in art is just throwing money down the drain.
