Climate Change 1
What is the evidence for climate change?
There are two time scales to study here…

Long term climate change – average global temperatures and weather

patterns have fluctuated over the course of millions of years,
alternating between very cold periods (‘glacials’ or ‘ice ages’) and
warmer periods (‘interglacials’) due to natural causes.

Recent (short) term climate change – a notable warming of average

global temperatures which has occurred in the last century and is
believed to be caused primarily by human factors.
What is the evidence for climate change?

Long term climate change

Activity
1. Draw a line graph to show temperature over
the last 200000 years
2. Mark the periods with lower temperatures
Scale 1cm =
with a ‘G’ for Glacial period 10,000 yrs +
3. Mark the periods with higher temperatures 2cm = 5
with a ‘I’ for Interglacial period degrees
