REFLECTION

Clare Williams
Question 1
◦ Reflect on how you differentiated throughout the lessons and unit (what type of learners are you meeting
throughout the unit). What types of learners does this unit plan meet and what type of learners might this
unit plan challenge?

◦ Through the lessons and this unit plan as a whole, I have differentiated the lessons to meet all different types of
learners, and make it flexible for other teachers to do it as well to best fit their class. For example, all lessons have
some sort of hands on activities for students to do, as well as some sort of pair-share or group activity. In these
lessons, there are many visual aids, audios, and videos for students who are visual or auditory learners. These
lessons and unit plan is based off of the multiple intelligences theory that there are many different types of learners,
and this unit plan accommodates many different types of learners.
Question 2:
◦ Reflect on how you are assessing students throughout the unit (formative and summative).

◦ Through the unit plan, I am formatively assessing the students with each lesson and activity that they do. Through
teacher observation, collecting exit tickets, and collecting activities and worksheets done in class I am able to
formally assess all students and make sure that they are understanding the material being taught.
◦ Through the unit plan, I am also able to do summative assessments. This unit plan has 2 summative assessments.
The first is one paper and pencil exam that covers all of the essential questions and goals of the unit plan. The other
summative assessment is the biography wax museum presentation where students will be assessed with a rubric.
Question 3
◦ Reflect on how you are incorporating technology into the unit.

◦ Technology is incorporated into every lesson of this unit plan, whether a video the teacher is showing to the class,
hands on learning activities and games found online relating to the lessons, or the students researching for their
mini projects and summative project.
Question 4
◦ Reflect on how you are engaging students in the learning of social studies through different activities (i.e.
fieldtrips, speakers, current events, simulations, etc.) that makes your unit unique.

◦ This unit plan engages students in the learning of social studies because the lesson have many different forms of
instruction. The students watching videos, reading articles, participating in debates, doing online quests, group
projects, and interactive games that keep the instruction engaging for students but also ensure that they are learning
the material.
Question 5
◦ What professional skills did you develop that from this experience that you will be able to use in your
own practice moving forward?

◦ From this experience, I have developed professional skills that I will be able to use going forward. I have
developed a sense of how much work and planning goes into not only every unit taught, but every lesson of each
unit. I have also learned how to find resources that are fun and engaging for students instead of lecturing every
class. This unit plan has taught me the importance of differentiating to different types of learners and children of all
abilities through having to think of ideas for each lesson, and having to support why these pedagogical practices
will work best . Overall, I think this was a great experience to get an idea of what really goes into planning and
teaching unit plans.
