JAMOVI & Basic

Statistics
Presentation by: Ms. Joy Anne S. Evaristo
Holy Angel University
 Why JAMOVI?
 It is FREE
 It is user-friendly
 It generates results in APA 7 format
JAMOVI
 JAMOVI Interface
 Reliability Test
 Descriptive Statistics Using Jamovi
 Test of Normality
AGENDA  Test of Correlation
 Chi-Square
 T-Test
 ANOVA
 Reliability in scientific investigation usually means
the stability and repeatability of measures, or the
ability of a test to produce the same results under
the same conditions.
 For a test to be reliable it must first be valid.
Reliability Test  Cronbach's alpha is the most common measure of
internal consistency ("reliability"). It is most
commonly used when you have multiple Likert
questions in a survey/questionnaire that form a
scale and you wish to determine if the scale is
reliable.
Reliability Test
Reliability Test
 The analysis, summary, and presentation of
findings related to a data set derived from a
sample or entire population. Descriptive
statistics comprises three main categories
Descriptive  Frequency Distribution
Statistics  Measures of Central Tendency
 (Mean, Median, mode)
 Measures of Variability
 (Range, Interquartile Range, Variance, and
Standard Deviation)
Assumption of normality means that you should
make sure your data roughly fits a bell
curve shape before running certain statistical
tests or regression.
Test of
Normality
Shapiro-Wilk Test This test will tell you if a
random sample came from a normal
distribution. The test gives you a W value; small
values indicate your sample is not normally
Test of distributed.
Normality
If p-value < .05, then the distribution is
not normal
data: math_high
SW = 0.977, p-value = 0.002
Interpretation:
The Shapiro-Wilk normality test revealed that
Test of the distribution of math high school scores is
not normal (SW = .977, P = .002)
Normality
Try the test of normality with other scores
 Which scores are normal?
Describes the degree of relationship between
two variables

Test of
Correlation
An advantage of the Spearman rank
correlation coefficient is that the X and Y
values can be continuous or ordinal, and
approximate normal distributions for X and Y
are not required
Strength of correlation
.00-.19 “very weak”
.20-.39 “weak”
.40-.59 “moderate”
.60-.79 “strong”
Test of .80-1.0 “very strong”

Correlation data: math_high and science_college – Pearson

data: math_high and read_high - Spearman
Math high school scores and science college
scores were strongly positively correlated, r
= .631 and were significant (p<.001).
Test of
Correlation:
Pearson
Results of the Spearman correlation indicated
that there was a significant positive association
between High School grade in Math and High
school grade in Reading, (r = .663, p < .001).
Test of
Correlation:
Spearman
 ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT CHI-SQUARE IS
USED TO TEST CATEGORICAL VARIABLES

Can be used to test of independence between two

Chi-Square variables
has two major fields of application: 1) goodness of
Test fit test and 2) test of independence.

Kruskall-Wallis test (non-parametric)

When used as test of independence, the Chi-
Square Test is applied to a contingency table, or
cross tabulation
If p>0.05, RELATIONSHIP NOT SIGNIFICANT
If p<0.05, SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP
Chi S quare  If C is near zero (or equal to zero) you can
Test conclude that your variables are independent of
each other; there is no association between them.
 If C is away from zero there is some relationship;
C can only take on positive values.
Test for Gender and Race
 The chi-square test of independence for
gender and race showed that they have no
significant relationship, X2 (3, N=200)=3.20,
p =.361
Chi-Square
Test
Compares means of samples to check for
significant differences;
 Use it if you have 2 variables, if more than 2
variables use ANOVA or Regression;
T-Test  2 variables can be categorical (only
dichotomous) and continuous;
 If p<0.05 - SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE, if
p>0.05 - NOT SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE
T-Test
Student’s t-test: this test assumes that both groups of data are
sampled from populations that follow a normal distribution and that
both populations have the same variance.
Welch’s t-test: is more reliable when the two samples have unequal
variances and/or unequal sample sizes.
Mann-Whitney U Test is a statistical test used to determine if 2
T-Test groups are significantly different from each other on your variable of
interest. Non parametric test
 Continuous
 Skewed Distribution
 Random Sample
 Enough Data
 Similar Shape Between Groups

Test for math grades based on gender

There is no significant difference between
the math grades of males (M=52.95,
SD=9.66) and females (M=52.40, SD=9.15),
t(188) = -0.411, p-value = 0.682.

T-Test
 Used when categorical variable has more than two responses
(unlike t-test where it has to be dichotomous)
 Used when variables are more than 2 (unlike t-test which is only
limited to 2)
 If p<0.05 - SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE, if p>0.05 - NOT
SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE
 If p value is significant, then run a Tukey’s Test to know where
the difference exists
ANOVA
Sample interpretation:
Analysis of variance showed that the effect of socio-
economic status on math grades was significant,
F(2,197)=7.97, p<.001.
Post hoc comparisons using the Tukey contrast
indicated that the mean score for high (M = 56.17, SD
ANOVA = 8.69) is significantly higher than low (M = 49.17, SD
= 8.87);
the mean score for high (M = 56.17, SD = 8.69), is
also significantly higher than the mean score for
middle (M =52.21, SD = 9.36);
The mean score for low (M = 49.17, SD = 8.87). is not
significantly lower than middle (M =52.21, SD = 9.36).
There are many different types of regression. The type of
regression that is used depends on the type of
dependent variable e.g. linear regression is used with a
continuous dependent variable, logistic regression with a
binary dependent variable and Poisson regression with a
Regression Poisson counts dependent variable.
