Five Senses Words
4
Can you name the five senses words?
Taste,
Touch,
Sight,
Smell,
And hearing
5
EXAMPLE OF A POEM WITH FIVE SENSES
Apple
6
Imagine other different things you might see, hear, smell, taste or touch in your chosen time or place,
and write at least one noun* by each heading.
I See… blue skies, I Hear… baby birds, I Smell… flower buds, I Touch… new leaves
I Taste… Easter eggs
Now we need a bit more description, so add the next part to each line: ‘The sight is…’,
‘The sound is…’, ‘The smell is…’, ‘The feeling is…’ ‘The taste is…’
7
Putting it Back Together, it will be
Spring
8
Children compose a poem on ‘an orange’ that starts with each of the senses, just like
the one above.

Examples of Poems That Use The Five
Senses

Ocean Port
Feel the warmth from the heat
Feel the sand on your feet
Feel the cool of the breeze
Feel the calm
Using the senses to describe the beach
Hear the peace
Hear the waves hit the shore
Feel
Hear the sounds
Hear
Of boat motors roar
See
Taste
See the people in the sand
Touch
See that kite in his hands
See the way the seagulls fly

Haiku Year
JANUARY
Delightful display
Snowdrops bow their pure white AUGUST This poem uses some of the
heads Ripe golden harvest five senses to describe
To the sun's glory. Burning sun in azure skies aspects of each month.
Labours rewarded.
FEBRUARY SOUND:
Fresh green buds appear NOVEMBER Bleating happily.
Indicating spring will soon Frosty webs sparkle Echoes heard amid dense
Energize us all. In the early morning sun trees
Brightly bejeweled. Parks and gardens burst
OCTOBER With sounds
Red and gold leaves fall, JUNE Crunchy as cornflakes
Crunchy as cornflakes beneath Parks and gardens burst
Feet on a crisp morn. With sounds and vibrant SIGHT:
colours Fresh green buds appear
APRIL Perfect harmony. Ripe golden harvest
Bluebells stand so proud Red and gold leaves fall
Beneath trees so sparsely dressed Frosty webs sparkle
Fresh green leaves unfold.
