● How are you keeping in touch with your friends and family in another country?

● All countries have a postal service to deliver letters.

● In most of the countries, people have to collect their letters from the nearest post office.

● In some countries, letters are delivered to their door steps.

● The price of the stamp you use on a letter is depends on how weight the letter is and

where the letter is going.


● Letter travelling long distance go by air mail.

● Those going shorter distance travel by road, rail and when necessary, by sea.

● Most letters have much shorter distances to travel, although the basic system is the same.

● As long as the letters are properly addressed and paid for, those letters will reach the
destination safely no matter which part of the world it takes.

● Until 40 years ago, postal service was the only way for most people
to send letters.

● Today, you can send a letter or short message much quicker using e-
mail or a short message service (sms)

● With a mobile phone, you can send a short message quickly and
cheaply.

● The text message us then received by the other person on his or her
mobile phone.

● You can also add videos, photos or sound content to text messages.

● Text messages are also used for voting television shows,


competitions, as well as reminders on doctors’ or dentists’

E-MAIL MESSAGES
● E-mail is even faster way to send a letter or message.

● Information is sent from one computer to another using the telephone networks.

● It is also possible to send an e-mail message from mobile phones, electronic tablets and
television sets.

● Unlike text messaging, e-mail can be used to send letters, or longer messages.

● Attachments can be added to the e-mail which may include scanned images, photos,

videos, Word files and other larger documents.


INSTANT MESSAGING
● With instant messaging you can use the Internet to have a real-time
text conversation with someone.

● This can be done using a smart phone, a tablet, an Internet TV or a


computer.

● You can also chat with more than one person at the same time in an
Internet chat room.

LINKING THE WORLD
● E-mail, text messaging and instant messaging technology is widely
used by schools, colleges, businesses and people in their homes.

● This technology can link people not only in the same country but all
over the world.

● In only a few minutes, you can find out what life in like in another
country directly from people living there.
