BATCH LEACHING METHOD Explanation: ● Conducted by mixing the material to be leached with water (or another leachant) at a specified ratio in a reactor. ● Batch reactors for leaching method can be in the form of a closed vessel, a cell, or a column. ● A sample is placed in a given volume of leachant solution for a set period of time. ● Require some type of agitation to insure constant contact or mixing between the sample and the leachant. Variables to be considered for the batch leaching method: ● Configuration of extraction vessel ● Duration of extraction ● Solid-liquid ratio ● Sample pretreatment ● Leachant composition FIXED-BED LEACHING •It has been used in: • Beet sugar industry • Extraction of tanning extracts from tanbark • Extraction of pharmaceuticals from barks & seeds. • The cover is removable for solid loading. • Heated water flows into the bed to leach out sugar. • About 95% of sugar in the beets to yield outlet solution containing 12 wt. % sugar.
