Beneath the Shell

Vanessa Havens
Reasoning
I grew up in the country where the air is clean and insects are normal and animals are seen in the wild. Running around making
their own poem in the woods. This life has taught me to see how every animal is connected to one another.

This allowed me to see how many people have forgotten that animals are meant to exist in the wild.

In response to this lack of awareness towards the complex and interconnected system in which living creatures exist, I wanted to
create a piece that would bring that relationship back to peoples minds . By incorporating a group of animals and plants subtly
into one main creature/sculpture, I could show this intricate series of connections.
Why a Turtle?
Turtles are seen as an animal that carries the world on its back.

I felt this was the most fitting of creatures to choose.

Scale reflects a realistic size, similar to that of a green sea turtle.
