Speaking is “the process of building and sharing
meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal
symbols, in a variety of contexts”.

process of constructing meaning that involves producing
and receiving and processing information

Speaking is the most important skill among four skills

(listening, speaking, reading, and writing) because people who
know a language are referred to as speakers of that language.
This indicates that using a language is more important than
just knowing about it because “there is no point knowing a lot
about language if you can’t use it”

observe the social and cultural rules that apply
in each communication situation.

To help students develop communicative efficiency in speaking, instructors can use a
balanced activities approach that combines language input, structured output, and
communicative output. Language input comes in the form of teacher talk, listening
activities, reading passages, and the language heard and read outside of class. It gives
learners the material they need to begin producing language themselves.

08 Speaking is probably the language skill that
most language learners wish to perfect as soon
as possible. It used to be the only language skill
that was difficult to practise online. This is no
longer the case. English learners can practise
speaking online using voice or video chat and
services like Skype. They can also record and
upload their voice for other people to listen to.

Speaking is the delivery of language through

the mouth. To speak, we create sounds using
many parts of our body, including the lungs,
vocal tract, vocal chords, tongue, teeth and lips.
Speaking is the second of the four language
skills, which are: Listening.
