The role of ATP

in Metabolism

What I’ve Learned, And you will
• What is ATP
• Prefix
• ATP In Action
• Role In Endotermic Reaction
• Role in Membran Transport
• Role in Muscle Contraction
• Ceratin In Muscle
• ADP Phosphorilation
What Is ATP
ATP = Adenosin Triphosphate

What Is ATP
Adenosin Triphosphate

A P P P
Is a Molecule in the cell that allows quick and easy
Access to Energy when needed by cell’s organel
• Its a type of chaemical energy
• Release energy when the chaemical bond are
broken
Prefix
Adenosin

A P P P

Mono = Adenosin Mono Phosphate (AMP)

DI = Adenosin Di Phosphate (ADP)
Tri = Adenosin Tri Phospate (ATP)
Battry of the Cell

• ATP will bind to spesific part of a protein

molucule
• Once the bond between one of the phosphate
group is broken, the ATP will become ADP and
energized protein molucule

ATP In Endotermic Reaction
• ATP Hydrolysis are commonly Exotermic
ATP + H2O = ADP + Phosphate
• Some ATP’s Endotermic Reaction are :
1. Phosphorylation of the hydroxyl group of a
serine, threonine or tyrosine residue in the
enzyme
2. Phosphorylation of one of the substrates
3. Transfer of the adenosyl group of ATP onto one
of the substrates
ATP in Endotermic Reaction
• Phosphorylation of the hydroxyl group of a
serine
ATP in Endotermic Reaction

ATP in Endotermic Reaction
• Transfer of the adenosyl group of ATP onto one of
the substrates
ATP in Membran Tranport
• Protein binding for concentrative uptake
• Metabolic trapping
• Ion pumps and active transport
ATP in Membran Tranport
• Ion pumps and active transport
ATP in muscle contraction
• The important proteins of muscle are actin
and myosin
• ADP and Lost of single Phospate causes a
conformation change in the molecule
• Hydrolysis of the bound ATP to ADP and
phosphate causes a further conformational
change in the myosin molecule
ATP in muscle contraction
Creatine phosphate in muscle
• Creatine Phosphat acts as a reservoir or buffer
to maintain a supply of ATP for muscle
contraction until metabolic activity increases
• it can be used to rephosphorylate ADP to ADP.
• it is synthesized from the amino acids glycine,
arginine and methionine
• There is control over the uptake and retention
of creatine in muscle cells.

The phosphorylation of ADP to ATP
• Simpel phosphorylation
A small number of metabolic reactions involve
direct transfer of phosphate from a
phosphorylated substrate onto ADP, forming ATP
• Oxidative phosphorylation
most of the reactions in the oxidation of
metabolic fuels occur inside the mitochondria
Simpel phosphorylation
