 The Louvre
The Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi is located on the Saadiyat Island
Cultural District. It was established in 2017. This is part of a 30-year
agreement between the city of Abu Dhabi and the French government.
 The Louvre
Artwork from around the world will be showcased here, with a strong focus
placed upon bridging the gap between Eastern and Western art.
Jean Nouvel

The designer of the dome, Jean Nouvel, is

one of the most significant architects of
the last half-century. Throughout the
design of the Louvre, the architecture and
traditions of the UAE can be seen. The
centrepiece of the design is a huge silver
dome that appears to float; however, it
weighs 7,500 tonnes.

As the sun passes above the dome, the light peers through the 7,850 star shapes
of the dome to create an amazing effect within the museum known as the ‘rain of
light’. The inspiration for this design was taken from the palm trees of the UAE
and how the sun shines through them.
 The Louvre
The Louvre was built on the water and can be accessed by land or sea. It is
an archipelago of buildings and visitors can access 55 detached buildings,
23 of which are devoted to galleries.
 The Louvre
The Louvre is also environmentally friendly. The dome acts as a shading
canopy to protect the outdoor plaza and the buildings below from the heat
and the shade reduces the energy consumption of each of the covered
buildings.
