transfer. In order to cool the system, fins are provided on the surface of the system to
increase the rate of heat transfer. By doing thermal analysis on the fins, it is helpful to
know the heat dissipation and rate of heat transfer in different types of fin.
we know that, by increasing the surface area of fin configuration we can increase the
heat dissipation rate, so designing such a large complex systems is very difficult. There
fore fins are provided on the source of the system to increase heat transfer.
There are different types of shape and size fins used in engineering applications to increasing
the heat transfer rate such as
Rectangular fins
Triangular fins
Trapezium fins
Circular segmental fins
Parabola(Concave, Convex) fins
Cylinder(Circular, Tapered)fins

RECTANGULAR
PARABOLA
APPLICATIONS
Fins are most commonly used in heat exchanging devices such as,
Fins are used to increase surface areas for heat transfer purposes.
By using fins, heat transfer rate can be increased without any preventive
maintainance.
It is the cheapest way for increasing the heat transferring rate frome the hot
bodies.

Conductivity Using ANSYS heat transfer rate. The analysis is done using software
12 ANSYS and also by experimentation. The investigation
observed that heat transfer rate increases with perforations as
compared to fins of similar dimensions without perforations.

Harvinder lal et al. transfer of fin made by of fin is analyzed by design of fin with various extensions
aluminium alloy 1060 such as rectangular extension, trapezium extension, triangular
extensions and circular segmental extensions. The heat
transfer performance of fin with same geometry with various
extensions and without extensions is compared. The ranging
5% to 12% increase in heat transfer can be achieved with
these various extensions on fin as compare to same geometry
of fin without these extensions
